Cracked Block! Now What?

L&S is an excellent product, sadly the 53 block is such a POS you will be L&Sing more than once.

I expected ours to continue cracking beyond the L&S fix, lengthwise, until we got to the front of the block.
When it started leaking again, we took of turbo and in the way parts, and it had spidered away from it. Did not expect that. Since we already had the kit, we L&S ed it again.

I found another block, now we are just waiting for it to crack bad enough again to warrant a change, or retire the truck. It has well over 200K on it now, anyway.

I think the kit was $300, for DIYers.
There is no doubt in my mind the L&S works - there is just nothing to work with.

Over time you will beat the cracks...but why bother?

That sux to hear, Mine cracked @ 204K miles, and I continued to drive, drag race, sled pull and dyno the truck for almost 8 months!!! I put down over 500HP, 1129TQ with a cracked block:rockwoot: Finally at 240K miles I couldn't keep coolant in it. I was using BG stopleak, it comes in a white bottle with blue lettering, it works really well, and won't plug up the heater core or the radiator. you can buy it a NAPA.
IMHO in this application the lock&stitch is a pretty expensive band-aid. It probably works in other situations, but the area where a 53 block cracks is pretty thin.

I have a 55 block out of an 02, it has a broken ring in #6 and only has 72k miles located near Seattle

If your looking...Ive got a 55 block and a complete cracked 53 long block for sale...

Freshen up the 55, put the other parts from the 53 and do the swap in a weekend. Then the truck wont be down while you rebuild...$.02
