cranked up 4bt

some of us are trying to get alittle more performance content over on that site. I myself am going for a little more than 250 (around 400rwhp):D and still hoping to maintain over 25mpgs around town.

that would be badass man what are your main moves to get the power for that project, suck as injection pump, chargers, injectors ect.

I'm glad to see the 4b getting some attention in the performance arena. It has been long overdue. The hardest part of 4b builds has been getting a decent p-pump built. Anybody know of any good sources for 4b p- pump? I had to give $2900 for my last 13mm p-pump....ouch! It was also hard to find a source for 4b cams to have ground. Lots of hurdles to overcome

What is the most power achieved with an A- pump?

John, I never said it would beat 6b's, just that my goal was to be able to hang with them on the dyno. I think 600 fuel only is not out of the question. That would be like 900 on a 6b.

150HP per hole on #2 is pretty stout....I see no reason why it would be any harder to do on the 4BT vers the 6BT.....just the right combo of parts and tuning.

I have one i'm planning on running compounds on. just gotta find time to get it in my 53 Chevy cabover.
a nice turbo can wake them up, along with the 366 gov spring, and cranking up the fuel some. probably would be good idea to have a intercooler in the mix also.
I got one in a 72 scout i'm slowly working on cranking up. just have too many other things to work on besides it!

I'm hoping to build a fairly mild 4BT this spring/summer.

Just enough to push a 60's mail jeep into the 13s:evil

You guys are thinking right. The main problem with the 4bt is that most of them come with ve pumps but there are alot more coming available that have the p-pump and they will make some serious power with decent mileage all in a smaller package. I have heard of around 750hp with a p pumped 4bt but I also know of a couple guys that are running around with 450-600hp 4bt's. All the same tricks you would do to a 12v will work with a 4bt but I would spend the extra money up front and try to find a p pumped version as we all know the ve pump is limited.

ok, I know i am a silly Ve Guy but really, Come on. We all know the ve is not the best, yes p-pumps are awesome. You take away two cyl. the ve has to feed and a lot of the problems go away for the VE. And then you have dynamic timing.

Hey guys,

I am in kind of a pinch to get a p-pump for a 4b. Anybody know of a source?

Why not use 6 cyl p-pump with custom cam with 4 lobes and with 2 pluged P&B holes.

Or 8 cylinder p-pump with dual feed :evil

Have you tried a Case/IH or Case Construction dealer? Lots of 4b's with inline pumps in the ag and construction industry.

They are inline, but mostly A-Pump :bang

P-pump 4 cylinders are mostly in marine or high performance automitive use.

I'm not sure but I am gonna see what mine will do with the new compounds. I can only find 10mm plungers, I wish I could get some bigger but these will have to do for now I guess.

Give me a few weeks and I will post some numbers.

As you already know they are hard to find ,you can buy a complete 4bta with a P7100 just little more than what you paid for the pump . The reman pumps run less than 3K .Only about 2% came with the P7100 so they will be very little cores setting around and even being a Cummins deal I don't run accross them much .

I locked mine two days ago. 6000rpm was what the last person saw before they ran(using the 318 tach) and it held it for 45 seconds, kind of scary. All I could do was laugh. At 3800 rpm it took off, It still ran for what seemed like an eternity with the fass off. I guess I will just rebuild the one I have. I was just hoping to return it and start fresh.
I will have more in the pump than in the engine when I am finished. Back to the drawing board I guess.

thanks guys,

a buddy of mine is pickin two up from his boss they are marine motors and i think they have an inline pump on them not too sure though

Give me a shout if that is the case. If he is not after more than 500 hp I have an "a" pump that will work for him.

thanks,
Zach Hamilton
