Well we are in the process of finishing up the timing belt/water pump replacment on my brother's 06 Liberty. Fuking nightmare to those who have never worked on em, had to get a bunch of special tools which ended up being on back-order, and had to strip the entire front end down to do the job. Anyways we got the new belt on, unlocked everything and turned the engine over by hand. All was good.
Cranked it over and it fired right up and smoked a decent bit, but it hasn't ran in i'd say a month. Also revved up as soon as it started, then settled back down and had a shake, then smoothed out. At that point we had only put the timing belt on, still had the front cover and everything off. So we got it all put back together, got the radiator and IC on, and hooked up the airbox sensors, as well as cleared codes. Haven't filled the rad up yet, and its low on trans fluid.
Started it back up and it did the same rev high, then settle out thing. Repeated that everytime we've tried it. It sounds really rough once it fires and the RPM's jump to prolly 1500, then it drops down to an idle and is fine.
So whats going on here?
