Cummins NTC-350

I picked up an HT60 this weekend. I will have to measure the compressor wheel tonight when I get home, but the exhaust housing is a 22cm housing. I was told to find a HT60 off a higher hp N14. The seller assured me that this charger was once on an N14 but was unsure of the power rating of the original motor, he thought it may have come off a 525. For what I paid for this charger I couldn't see how I could go wrong.

My biggest concern right now is, will the 22cm housing be to tight? To be quite honest I am not sure what that dimension references. Should I look for a bigger housing or should I keep this one. I'm planning on porting and polishing the exhaust housing, the taking it to Swain Tech to get it ceramic coated, and I'd like to know if this is going to be the right housing I want.

22 is tight, for reference the ht3s that came with a 22 housing were used on 290-315hp engines.

I was told that I needed an HT60 off a higher hp N14. I thought that the HT3's and HT4's were off later Big Cams.

I'm not real familiar with Cummins but I know I've seen ht4's on early n14's. I just missed one that got scrapped actually.

Well the early N14s were mechanical motors. Maybe the HT4s were on the mechanical motors and the HT60s on the electronic motors?

I'm not really sure of all the different configurations. Just guessing.

Never seen a H4 on a N14 from the factory, only on 444's.

There are different turbines on the HT60, one is the same as the ht3, then at some point they changed it. You will just have to check the fit. I think most of the 460-500hp engines use a 26 on the updated turbine.

The one I've laid eyes on was definitely an n-14, I believe it was 460hp. Turbo tag said ht4c. I'm thinking it was early 90's.

Well maybe I wont be able to just use this as it is currently. Maybe I'll have to send it out and have a new turbine wheel put on it and a new exhaust housing. Well see, calling my turbo guy tomorrow.

I didn't say it couldn't be on there, just said it wasn't from the factory.

Might just check for different housing options.

I don't know a lot about the HT60s besides what I posted, I have never ran one and won't, mainly because I'd rather just jump up to a HT4 and not mess with a turbo that is at best a overgrown HT3 with some newer parts thrown at it.

Sorry I can't help on this one.

Cody, do you have a lube refiner on your truck? If so cab you get me pictures or tell me where it's plumbed into the motor. Mine came with one but it wasn't plumbed it.

School me on electronic Cats. I found a 3406E, serial number 5EK. Was a running motor when removed been sitting for 2 years. Guy has a good deal on it.

All depends on where your turbo feed comes from on where the feed line for that system will come from, there is an oil port in the oil filter housing that you should be able to see, this may also be where you turbo feed line comes from, if so there is another plug farther forward on that housing, this is where my second line comes from but I can't be sure of the exact location.

I will have to look to be sure when I get home this coming weekend.

Well the old girl hasn't done much but enjoying, for probably the first time ever, hibernating in a shop for the next 6 months, resting peacefully next to it's younger yellow counter part.

I had a big cam 400 that I was hoping to rob some parts off of for my motor. Turns out a lot got destroyed when the guy just ripped it out of the original truck it was in. I kept a few things but I think my biggest discovery was a power steering pump. This winter I'm really hoping to put a hub piloted front axle under it, take a few springs out and get the front end down lower and put power steering on this old girl. That has got to improve drivability and ride-ability tremendously.

I'm in no hurry since I do have 6 month to do all this work. But looking for a little help on the power steering. It's a pretty simple system from looking at my dads cats, but does anyone know if any Kenworth W900 power steering box will work on my truck? I assume it will because all W900 have set forward axles. I don't see why a power steering box out of a newer truck wouldn't work on my truck. Any help/ pictures of 855 power steering setups will be greatly appreciated.

Cody, when you ran a big gear drive on your 855 how did it react? How did the big three react? Pyro, rail pressure, manifold pressure?

I'm a little concerned that this HT60 isn't going to make enough air to support a big gear drive and max injectors (yes, I realize my injectors will flow less than yours maxed will).

Thanks

I still don't run a pyro, working on getting that done over the winter. Timing is going to have more to do with your pyro than what the gear pump will. The biggest difference I noticed is lower rpm power and fueling, more so having the proper feed line into the pump. I changed some lines around and gained 50psi of rail pressure over my previous setup with the same pump. When I was running a standard pump I was running around 360psi with a smaller set of injectors, I switched injectors to a big set and lost power and boost, that's when I was told that my pump wasn't keeping up, I switched to a PP pump that a friend had and my pressure jumped to around 450psi and when I changed the lines it now sets at around 500psi.

My manifold pressure never has been as high as what some say it should be, I'm around 42psi with my hybrid turbo, I also know that I have a set of pretty heavily ported heads so that changes my engine from the normal ones.

The only thing you can do is try it, you already have the 60 on hand and HT4s are getting harder to find. Put it together and get it hooked to something, playing on the road can be fun but you won't notice the gains until you get a proper amount of weight behind it.
