Custom Girdle/Cummins

industrial made me one they claim to sell them to haisley?

I highly doubt that

yeah i figured that didnt make sense when they told me that but they gave me one. iam sure if i look haisleys name is scratched out somewhere

For the price of the cummins stiffener I figured why not. I think I have $100 in mine with the extra gasket and longer bolts.

Why do you need a 1 piece girdle???
We use a 3/4" girdle with ground blocks between the caps and girdle on the tractor with zero problems. And it has a touch more load on the bottom end than any 5.9 :evil

Sorry I had to post this picture. :hehe:

A one piece main setup like this thread is speaking of is a bedplate not a girdle. Bedplates are becoming common in gas engines in passenger cars.
I would have to agree with Distributer on this though. A good stiff girdle can handle quite a bit.
Someone should build one like top fuel guys with 4 bolt mains and buttress bolts. I would think that could handle more then adequately:rockwoot:

That is the most awesome thing I have ever seen! Lol If I was going to build an engine on a stand with all the goodies I would deffinately use a girdle like that one.

We have a local water jet shop do ours. It's 5/8ths inch thick and we use 14mm studs that are longer than standard studs .

Anyone know a PN on the Cummins stiffener? The parts guy on the phone told me $55, does that sound right?

Cummins # 3941556

edit: you also need longer oil pan bolts and oil pick up tube bolts

its a 1/4'' thick. Not really worth the effort time or money unless your truck came factory with one like mine did.

I knew about the longer bolts for the oil pickup and the pan. Thanks.
I was thinking about modifying it myself to tie into the maincaps also, I have a machineshop I love to use :D

Why tie it to the mains? Cap walk is only a problem above 1600 crank HP.

Aren't all the cool kids doing this though? I was thinking about just the stiffener while I had the motor apart, and $55 + bolts isn't that much. Plus, if I go with main studs, why not make some spacers to fill the gap, drill some more holes and tie it all together? I would only be out a few hours labor...

Well, my personal reason for using just the stiffener is I set my goal on blowing the crank out the bottom side of the block. I don't have any other reasons.

If anyone installs one this thick you will have to modify the front crossmember in order for the oil pan to clear. MAX had to do this to my rig.

Nice carnage pic! :woohoo:
Looks like they used the stock stiffener in addition to the girdle?
"Girdles cain't fix stoopid" :hehe:

I don't know of anyone who makes bedplates for the 5.9L, but girdles like Kenny's need to have the main caps blanchard-ground to provide a perfectly planar foundation for the spacer blocks supporting the girdle itself.

I don't think CTD girdles are necessary unless at least 2 of the following conditions apply:

Full-load extended high RPMs (5000+)
Very high combustion pressures (over 3Kpsi)
Altered crank counterweights (more than 5lbs.)
High peak torque production at low RPM (i.e. 2500ft-lbs+ @ 1500 RPM)
