Custom Valve Cover ????'s

not to hi-jack but i have wanted to do my valve cover for a long time but i dont have a paint gun to paint it. dad said to just use a high temp paint out of a paint can. what do yall think? anyone done this?

Heck i painted an entire jeep with pain cans. Get after it man just make sure you get some practice on a piece of card board to make sure you dont get runs. Dont be sceered just do it.

I just went to Oriellys and bought High Temp engine enamel. Just make sure you clean the surface purdy good and you shouldnt have any problems.

sweet any type of paint you recemmed

I would first make sure the cover is smooth and very clean. Use a cleaner that wont leave any residue. And if the surface is still a little rough you might try to find some High Temp primer. Then get some high temp paint and get after it. Just make sure it is prepared clean and smooth before you paint it.

Strip all of the old paint off with sandpaper, wire brush, etc. Then clean the surface with dish washing liquid and water. Dry. Clean with lacquer thinner. Dry. Use engine enamel primer and paint. That's all.

i bought a cheap sandblaster and sandblasted it. then sanded it smooth and primered it, painted it, and then polished the letters.

In my opinion, just off the shelf krylon will handle it, I have auto air colors airbrushing paint and krylon flat black and krylon clear coat on mine and its fine. I also wax it. Its not too awful hot in there, But I have a CR and the plastic valve cover so it may retain less heat/dissipate quicker. Just be careful if you clear coat it. If it does get too hot the clear will discolor(yellow) And for the cost and color choices you get out of high temp paint, Its worth it for piece of mind that it will stay looking nice. Hope that helps,
