I know not many use a d60 front spool for obvious reasons but is there anything to look for when buying one. It would be nice if i could just get a 32spline spool but if not ill just upgrade everything to 35spline. But what brand to go with from what ive seen they seem relatively cheap but that isnt always a good thing.

Are you going to lockout hubs?

32 spline or 35 spline axles with a spool will be impossible to turn unless you are going to use a 2-piece passenger side axle (that I am not sure are being made).

All the spools are pretty much the same. I've had two different brands and they looked identical. Pretty sure there are only a couple companies that actually make them!

As long as you have at least one lockout you will be fine. Otherwise you will not be able to turn at all unless you have hydraulic steering. Even then it's hard on the front end.

guess i will find out on mine lol i welded mine till can afford a locker

I have a strange brand, most trucks dont turn good in 4 lo, so what does it really matter, go for it.

I cant use my d60 carrier with 5.13s. I wont be able to steer the best anyways because the clearance with the front tires. Maybe i should go drive one of the the local gas trucks around the pits to see what its like. I plan on leaving it in 2wd till i come up onto the track because of my r&p split. Theres a local place everyone around here uses for gas performance and drivetrain stuff i might give them a call i know they make spools.

Im running a Moser 35spline in my truck have superwinch lockouts likes said above u can not turn it at all with both axles locked lol

I ran a spool from Randy's Ring & Pinion, 35 spliine, I think it was $120 and it worked great for pulling. Of course the truck was a strict puller so it was somewhat difficult but not impossible to turn being I had the Dynatrac lock-out hubs. Just leave passenger side locked when pulling up to line and hooking to sled, then once your hooked get out and lock up driver side. Unlock after hook......

No issue there unless you have a lockout hub or CAD.

Are you saying it's a problem with welding the spiders together if you have the CAD or lockouts? Or do you mean it's fine to weld them if you have a way to unlock at least one side? The later would make more sense but not how I read your response.

mine is welded and is almost impossible to turn when the posilock cable has the axles locked together, even while moving. i have to lock the posilock in before i pull onto the track to make sure it gets locked in...and just pulling out in front of the sled and getting it lined up straight is a pain in the a$$ because it doesnt want to turn.

the added traction is worth it tho.

x2 I had mine set-up this way for one weekend and was also a pain in the a$$, so I bit the bullet and ordered a detroit locker.

Not sure where the confusion is, but there is no issue using a spool or welded carrier if you have lockouts or CAD.

Here's what we did....

Weld the center section. Used a ford dana 50 hub and stub shaft on the drivers side with a warn lock out. The passenger side is factory. Just unlock driving around the pits (we also use hydraulic steering) Lock in when your backing up to the sled.

If I could get my hands on a lockout hub or two that is what I want to do.
