did a Dana 80 swap on my truck and either the posi is worn out bad or its an open carrier. I 95% drag race with this truck. what are my options on a new carrier. i want to go with a spool, but damn, all the ones i have found are close to a $grand. and pretty much every thing else i have found is for a 4.10 and up ratio. if it is a posi, is there a place that i can get a clutch pack rebuild kit for it? give me my options please.

Thanks, Jesse B

I'm interested as well. Although, I won't post that my rearend is wore-out and open. :hehe:

LOl...
If it's a posi, it may simply have too much friction modifier in the fluid. Swap it out for some cheap NON Limited slip specific gear oil & run it a few miles... it might supprise you.

A D70 Detroit locker can be fitted into a D80. I actually have one for sale if your interested....

well you need to see first if you have the posi or open rear. not many 80's came in dodge with open rears, most have a trak-lok in them. if its worn out you can find parts for them or complete replacements on ebay.

if you really want it to lock up, make sure you stack them clutch-steel every other one (they dont come like that from dodge because it makes them chatter, dodge puts 3-4 steels, then 3-4 clutches, then alternates the rest but it doesnt lock up as well) and also throw in an extra clutch from your old stack on each side to put even more pressure on it. I was sled pulling for 1.5 years on a set-up like this and never once have a video showing me spinning only one rear tire...it was always locked up tight.

You just have to drill the ring gear bolt holes out from 1/2" to 9/16''
And do a little creative shimming.

Would be glad to sell you this one. Also have some CTM 300m Axles

x2.

Some people say that the clutches will wear prematurely doing this, but I have been running without any friction modifier in my diff for several years now. I have no issues and the thing is locked up tight.

If you really want a spool and you can't find what you want, just weld the diff.

that sounds like the route im gonna go hoping that it is factory posi. also the most cost effective route for me. kinda wish i woulda just put a diff back in the 70, but i heard the 80 was the way to go so i did it. lets hope it lasts.
Thanks

Do you have to mess with gear lash and shimming if you tear into it far enough to "restack" the clutches? I want mine locked up a little tighter but don't have a case spreader or the know how to properly setup the pinon and ring gear lash.
