i have been driving the dmax for the past couple of months and i have had this come up. right off idle it is like the pedal does nothing then after a 1/2 inch of movemen bam! it takes off pretty quick. hit the scan tool on it and the scale was nice and smooth. any ideas???????????? it is a 01 dmax with 150k or so on it.

Sounds like a typical 01 to me. I had these problems when I was running an 01 OS in my BURB, flashed in an 02 OS with EFILIVE and it hasn't done it since. I would make sure you're running on the latest update from GM for the ECM as the early ones had alot of glitches in them.
