Audi's diesel technology has dominated over gasoline powered cars for the last few years now at Le Mans. Congratulations Audi on this weekend's endurance race win.
Here's a video of the engine sounds of last years Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro LMP1. They have been nicknamed the "silent killer" because rules require diesels to have soot collector emissions controls making them super quiet.

I believe part of the sound when the throttle is off during hard braking is the sound of energy being stored into the hybrid flywheel system powering the front wheels. It's amazing watching a diesel car zoom past a super hot race Corvette like it's sitting still.
