Do I have the right turbo for the job?

sounds like you have a boost leak. you should see more boost than that. wide open and at cruise. if the wastegate is indeed closed off something is not right.aer you getting a lot of smoke?

I'm thinking of trading down back to a HX35.

Yes, I get smoke, mostly cause it seems to take forever to spool. It's nothing like my HX35 was. The smoke clears up when it lights, but idono, I'm pretty discouraged about the whole thing. It emptied my pocketbook on the way down here getting bad mileage. I'm wondering if it just needs more fuel, I'm tempted to put the injectors in, but I'm also tempted to go right back to stock and be done with it. Almost feels like it dumps fuel, raises EGT's, and then when it finally lights it's too late and the EGT's just keep goin'

Maybe I'll take some video's of it tomorrow. I'll try to find a place to host them. You guys want a 0 to 55mph run? 60mph roll, anything else? I'll just film the gauges.

Something is wrong here. That 62/14 should spool almost as fast as your stock HX35.

my vote is for a boost leak, but......

If you don't agree, I'll trade you turbos. I'll even get mine rebuilt just to play fair.

But in all seriousness, I would bet a very large sum of $$ that you have a boost leak somewhere.

5x.012" 145* 265bar injectors as per Smokem and a set of twins. Use the 62/65/14 and put a S475 under it.
This is the combo I am doing, and people who have this combo says it runs fast and tows great.
I am also going to go to a #6 plate, and lower my timing to around 17*.

Id say a boost leak also, you should be seeing at least 10psi towing that load at 70mph.

Also Im not to up on 12v's, but you said your having hard start issues and white smoke w/ only 16.5 degrees timing, which doesnt sound right, unless your at or around the teen's in the morning.

Now that you mention it the elbow off the turbo never quite sealed the way I wanted it too. Maybe it's time to triple check it. Could there be a boost leak anywhere else other than at the boots? How about where the compressor housing bolts to the center housing?

-Dustin-

Intercooler could be cracked, mine was. Check the line going to the AFC housing,, make sure that isnt cracked. Check all boots and connections. Make yourself a boost leak checked. Go to home depot and get a 4" rubbercoupling and a 3" PVC cap. Drill a hole in it and add a male air hose fitting. Clamp that on your turbo air inlet and add about 25-30psi of shop air and listen for leaks. You can also take some soapy water and spray everything.

Good Luck

Good deal my air compressor should be showing up THU, then I'll check everything. Problem is I could make 42psi with the stocker, then I switched to this one and it's not even close.

yeah something happened on the install. if you have a compressor coming gett the couple fittings and check it out. couldnt hurtto look it over though

Let us know what you find on this! (Sounds similar to mine......)

Guess I need to get those parts assembled and check mine over! I noticed on mine that they put in a plastic tube from the intercooler to the engine (What were they thinking?). I hope it's something simple!

My intercooler is swiss cheesed. I am currently removing it, but on the back side I can feel and head the air hissing out of multiple spots. So...WTB Stock Intercooler.

Think you can JB Weld these if the holes are easy to get to?

Most radiator shops can repair a intercooler..

That's what my one friend was saying, I hope someone around here can do it right. Pretty much explains the problems I was having. Weird thing is I never noticed it on my HX35, but it's definately leaking at the intercooler.

Counted nearly 30 holes I could see. I started a new thread on it in the 12 valve section. Thanks for the help guys.

Update: I sold the 62 turbo a little while ago, I found out when I measured the wheels that it was actually a 62/71/14. I replaced the setup with a HX35/HT3B setup and it works much better, especially after fixing the slipped timing and intercooler.

Added HX35/HT3B, Smokem 5x.014 EH's.

I would look at the new DP mag, it list all the best turbo shops that will tell ya what you need, becuase we all know that DP mag only states the truth
