i have been thinking a lu switch.reading old posts, some say it is needed so it doesent go into limp mode.some say you dont need a jumper with the 33ohm.can someone clear this up for me?

Don"t know about a re but with a rh I know you don't. Seeing how the re is electronic I could see there being a possibility of needing it.

what i am looking for is to have me lock it up,and still have the computer do it also.when i dont need to do it.

I know for a fact it is possible, just do a quick search there should be a ton of info on it. I've even seen some wiring diagrams.

Use the 33ohm 1/2 watt resistor and the jumper inplace of the relay and save yourself alot of headaches. You can pick up a package of I think 5 of these at Radio Shack for a little of nothing. Do not cut your orange and black wire, splice into it and go to your switch, come out of your switch, place one side of the resistor to the wire and the other side of the resistor to a GOOD ground.

Please describe how you splice into the wire. I hope ur not telling us to use those god afful "scotch locks". Thanks

you strip a section of coating off and solder your wire onto the bare wires and then wrap it good with electrical tape. Good as new

Cut the orang/black wire and use a 3 position switch, one for locked, one for unlocked, and one for stock. Then jump the relay and your set! You don't need a resister!!! Iv had mine done for about a year and works GREAT!

converter lock up switch

Wire it up just like that. TC will lock normally when the switch is off and when the switch is on it'll lock the converter and won't come unlocked till you flip it off.

If i understand this right. once i get into 2nd gear i can flip the switch on and it will lock the converter up and will shift through the gears while staying locked up. so if i need to slow down some i need to unlock it and if i come to a stop i need to unlock it as well. Im guessing you it will not allow the trans to down shift if need be unless i unlock the switch?

Will this switch hurt the trans or will it be better for it?

I can lock mine at a stop light and it won't lock the converter till it hits 2nd gear. But that's how my VB is set up. That's how my stock VB was set up as well.

If you need to slow down then flip the switch off. Trying to come to a stop with the converter locked would be like trying to downshift and come to a stop with a stick without using the clutch. Not pretty.

My trans is completely stock and so is the converter, is this switch safe to use. can i flip it on at a stop light like you said and take off and let it shift through the gears or do i need to turn it on and off before it shifts into each gear? thanks

Using a lockup switch can lead to broken stock shafts. Combination of a loose torque converter with a lot of slipage, doing locked shifts, puts a lot of torque against the drive train.

On my 02, when drag racing I throw the lockup switch before staging, and it goes locked on the 1-2 shift. This is normal behavor with the 47RE valve body. The 48RE valve body will lock in any gear. Locking the converter at full throttle on the 1-2 shift you have better have a stout converter and trans.

Just leave the switch on. The truck will go through the gears on it's own.

And paulb is right, lock up switches and stock trannies aren't a good combination. You can tear stuff up real quick.
