Here is an example - 285/70R17
This means the tread is 285 mm wide, the sidewall is 70% of 285mm
to convert overall tire height to inches use the following formula:
((285 x .70 x 2)/ 25.4) + 17
((tread width x aspect ratio x 2)/25.4) + rim size
There are 25.4mm in 1 inch
