Dying VP44, higher egts=timing issues?

At least on my truck the breather tube wasn't long enough and blew oil all on the radiator clogging it up.

I have dual pyrometers, one for the Quadzilla Adrenaline and one on the Snow Monitor. They are correct.

Coolant temperatures do get too high for my liking as well. I've seen between 190 & 230 (in the middle of the line) the Adrenaline doesn't seem to read over 200 degrees, it just changes to a zero. It only happens up longer hills and while in town, even only towing about 12k.

I've never heard my fan kick on yet..

I think your fan should definitely kick on at those temps. Mine comes on probably no higher then 210*. Other then the normal issues that can cause the fan clutch to not engage, I wonder if the quad could be a factor. I've never used the Quad Adr. so i'm not familiar with how it hooks up. If it doesn't read over 200*, is there any chance it could be the reason your fan clutch isn't being engaged? Coolant temp fooling... kinda like boost fooling???

I don't have any ideas for the high egt's other then what's already been mentioned in this thread. Good luck.

To low of RPM. 62/65/12 on my truck I ran 130HP injectors and if I was under 2100 towing one truck on hills it would get warm. Once I got above 2100 it would have too hot of EGT. This was with 3.54 and 285 tires which I think is what you have and the Autos have a higher OD than the 6 speeds. I saw 1000-1100 pretty consistently towing.

What is too warm. I feel my truck always seems to run on the hot side. I just get accustomed to the 1200 degrees. Maybe try keeping the OD off and see. Once you build the heat it might be tough to loose it. Maybe if it doesn't get there it would be better. Those 150 sticks are pretty good size for the 62/65/12 also. You say it is a non wastegated housing? If it was wastegated I have a 14 I would trade ya.

I don't think the fan clutch is activated electrically on a 99 24 valve is it?

It's not. It's temp controlled. But if your water temps are hitting 230* then it should be kicking on. Hell, mine is on dang near constantly in the heat we have been having and I'm still running 190* with a 180* t-stat.
