Edge Drag Comp in a stock cummins

Yes but I had a SO pump... it would prolly be about the same increase you would see from your HR VP44...

An untapped drag comp will give you the same power as an EZ which is ~65hp.

I to would like to know why, that if you tap the hrvp pump with the edge it will turn it into a so pump.
I dissagree, BD encourages you to tap their pump,
When I installed my new BDHRVP I drove it for a week, then tapped the pump with my edge comp hot & ikarumba, what a difference!
Could someone explain why?

So are you guys trying to say if you don't tap the VP44 its bad? Or will i be ok not tapping it? Just trying to save the tranny till i have money

It wont magically become an SO pump. Don't be dumb. But once you tap the wire the hrvp wont have any benefit over a regular SO pump.

And of course tapping the wire made your truck feel better. It added more power. Once again, don't be dumb. An untapped comp is an ez and is 65hp. A tapped comp is 120hp. Big difference.

Don't be dumb, elementary statement.

No $h1t !

" tap it like a hot date" classic. Kind of sucks converter is alreadly slipping a little bit.. o well i will be building a tranny a little faster than i wanted to :hehe:

The difference between a hrvp and an SO VP is the hrvp has more timing from the factory. That's where the extra power comes from. The VP can only do so much timing whether its an SO or hrvp. The comp does its power through timing for the most part. So once you tap the wire you max the timing out at the same spot as an SO so your only making what an SO makes. So instead of spending $1000 on an SO pump and $600 on a comp and having a great running truck without a goofey idle you've spent $1600 on a hrvp and $600 on a comp and have a similar power level truck with a goofy idle.

I'm not talking about a monster pump either. And yes I've run both pumps with a drag comp and dynoed with both.

Ah I see, thanks for clearing that up. I never really knew what the wire tap was doing with the VP44.

Did you see any difference at the dyno with the two different pumps? And what do you mean by goofy idle? :lolly:

The idle will lope like how a gas motor does with a big cam. My buddy just bought a HRVP from Industrial Injection. It idles perfectly smoothe. Also I thought I read here that the stock SO pump only fuels 60% of its capacity. The wire tap on the comp pushes it to 100% by pushing the diaphragm farther. I give a new pump 500 miles to break in before tapping the wire.

Lopey idle. PIA to drive. Some don't lope, majority of them do. Not worth the risk.

I have had my HRVP for a while now and just ordered a BD stealth plate for my pump to make tapping the wire a little more safe. I think i will be all set. Time will only tell

Just solder the tap on to the wire. Solid connection and your warranty is void either way.
