The directions say not for towwing +18k not sure what they would do never towwed that heavy with them yet but they seem to work great all I have done so far about 10k + As for manual switch you can use any two pole switch and wire ground to switch and run to pin # 6 on fan controler

I've had my 9k lbs. empty trailer with aprox. 25k lbs. of hay on for 150 miles multiple times with no problems what so ever, kicks the crap out of the stock fan, especially climbing hills.
