lets see your electric/hydraulic stearing set up's.

Looking to do a set up on a 01 dodge ram... would love to see pictures and specs.

what about running a hydraulic pump where your normal power steering pump would be, pretty common on "industrial" 5.9 and 8.3's.......

if not, get a lift gate motor and go from there.....

Well if it is just a puller you could do what i did on my 3.0 truck. I used a snow plow pump and got some lines made up to hook it to my gear box and wola! I wired it to a switch, works good for me cause i have full steering when the truck is getting pulled around. Just my idea i amn sure there is better ones but that one is pretty cost efficient.

yep its a full time puller... i just want to see how everything is done. and how everything works... i have a good idea how everything goes

going with the hydrolic pump and taping into the factory steering box is a great way of doing it if you are on a budget or you don't mind having the stock steering wheel/steering shaft still in place. By going full hydro you will need a steering box off a tow motor/fork lift and also the cylinder from one as well as your standard snow plow power pack. Make a braket in the cab to mount the steer box (I believe they call it an orbital valve but not sure) and run your lines. It setup works great and gives you ALOT more room under the hood as well as easier access to the engine.

I used a steering setup off of a combine, took both valves and cylinder, then just got an electric motor with a pump from work. The whole setup cost me about $40. Works great, can run the steering without the motor running and made a lot more room for the headers without the steering shaft in the way. And I can turn the wheels with 1200lbs. hanging on the front.

bubba2400- you beat my too it. We did the same thing on our puller. Just got the box out of the steering colum and the clinder off the back, and mounted it on the axle in the place of a factory steering stabilizer. Then we had a lift gate pump feeding the box and it steers great. We had the gate pump just feeding the factory box and it was still a pain to turn. About the same prcie as you also.:woohoo:
I'll try to get some pics tonight.

heres a basic diagram......

Here is a website I got it from. It has lots of info about different pumps, steering vavles, and all other other junk in between

what clyinders are you guys running...were to get them along with what pumps are you using... factory? or others?

Why do people do away with factory power steering?
Accessory belts/pumps can rob horsepower. Hydraulic is definately an advantage in pulling in all aspects. Provides extra room in the engine bay for whatever else you need.

... i want a set up that some has already ran and i wanna know that it works good... any takers?

Pump Simple 12v pump with tank
Cylinder Depending on the stroke you need.
Valve Smaller the valve the more sensitive and powerful the steering. (moving less fluid per turn)

Gotcha thanks. I knew there had to be some advantage for the trouble.

I've seen some make an adapter plate to mount the water injection pump, or just get a Scheid or Haisley billet timing housing and cover. Its already machined to fit and run the water injection pumps they sell.

Who is running hydraulic assist steering?

How bout some pics?
