electric/hydraulic stearing set up's

what do you want pics of? all that it is a stock style pump with some internal work done to it. a stock steering box with 2 ports taped in it then a 1.5x8 or 1.75x8 single ended ram at the axle with one end mounted to the tie rod and the other to the axle housing.

this is for hydro assist not full hydro

So need a 8" travel ram then? Where do you tap the box?

tired of my dang wheel hoppin around and lookin like a have an IFS up there....

assist can still drive it where ever I want. I think I am gonna add CM drag link and tie rod with heims as well.

On the '89 a 8" cylinder limits the travel just a little. Worked out good for the traction bars anyway. It had 8-3/4" travel from stop to stop. I hope to have it done soon. Cylinder is in the mail.

There are numerous places to tap the box. You just need to get oil from both sides of the piston. I tapped the aluminum cover with the adjuster in it, and the round end plug. They are both fairly easy to pull off. I spot faced, and drilled them to take SAE 6 o-ring fittings. Not a big fan of NPT.

Most say to use a 1-1/2" bore and 3/4" rod, for the closest balance of power with the factory pump.

Here is some info:

I couldn't tell you the exact location on a superduty box but as mentioned west texas, psc motorsports, or howe steering should be able to either get you a new box or set your current one up for you.

If you have a 60 a 8" stroke ram is what you should need thats what I have for my 60, and what many others use. If your going to stick with the stock pump I'd do a 1.5x8 ram.

chromo I'd say is over kill unless your going to run .120 or .188 wall. I personally run 1.5x.250 DOM with 7/8x3/4 hiems on a truck that plays in the rocks.

Well we got the cylinder mounted and tried it out. It works sweet! Before you had to be Popeye to navigate in 4WD, now you can use one finger. It is definitely worth it. Sleeved the tie rod with 1/4" wall tubing, and plug welded it in numerous spots.

i have always used clyinders from tractor supply 2"x8" stroke. i think they are around $60.

check chuckstrucks.net for a full kit. they have all the needed parts even mounting tabs for rockwell

is that hydraulic only now or is there still a link between the box and and steering.

Garrett

It is hydraulic assist. If you unhooked the drag link, the pump would not build pressure until the box was against it's internal stop(s).
