Electric Water Pump...Who uses one??

ordered from Garrett at PDP...its on backorder slated to ship out monday. im not liking the reliability reports, i absolutely hate wiring and electric stuff, I have a modded pump i made last year that would work fine with a bypass, and the money could be used towards some other stuff.

Yep...I would just worry about having someone to talk to for warranty...apparently, my warranty is no good!

Anyone DD with these pumps? We have had 2 and now possibly a 3rd fail. Seal goes out and fills motor with coolant, then seizes.

Really thinking about going back to the enterprise bypass kit and stock pump..

may i ask how it fills the motor up with coolant? maybe i am just retarded but if the seal goes out on the pump wont the coolant just leak on to the ground?

edit-----never mind i am retarded. i thought you were talking about the actuall engine siezing up, :bang and not the electric water pump. sorry.

My first one failed also pretty quickly accually, new one was sent out by Garrett with no questions. Its been working well all winter, the first one did the same as already mentioned....leaked water from where the wires come out of the top of the pump. Nice item to have on a purpose built racer or puller, but still way to pricey. JMO

I've got Opies coolant bypass kit and haven't had any problems with it at all. It's seen 4,200rpm a few times and 3,800rpm alot. I don't think an electric water pump and a bypass kit are comparable. The bypass kit bypasses at 16psi. If it works correctly I should never blow another freeze plug.

The electric water pump just pumps water at a consistent speed, not volume due engine warming up and heat soak after hard runs. After a hard run I'm up around 220*. An electric pump would still be pumping at the same speed. I don't know the math but have read somewhere that every degree the coolant rises it expands so much and creates so much added pressure. We'd be less likely to blow a freeze plug with an electric but still not impossible.

For peace of mind, I'm going to run the bypass kit and an electric water pump from Dr. Performance. Which I believe is the same pump that Jegs sells.

redstroke, who's pump is this? the cheap one ebay? the enterprise engine one has never leaked in 3 years.

Enterprises pump isn't any different than the ebay pump. I asked them about it a while back.

Yes Big Swole I Have Heard Of The External Water Pumps, I Used To Use Them On Drag Honda Motors, Made By Merieze(spelling). Always Been Good For Me.

Anyone else having problems with electric water pumps blowing fuses??

Sure would be nice to be able to talk to the guy who sold it to me...sadly, he won't respond to my PM's:(

Like Goat said, Dr. Performance has em listed now. I got on their web site to find prices but i guess its not up to date yet.

I have had both pumps in my hand and the ones from EEP have what I believe to be better connections and the impeller looked nicer too.

This Miezer pump I installed before the newer ones came out on the ole BBD worked great :)
