Exhaust brake on twins ?

If you were majorly concerned about it you could externally wastegate around it. US GEAR does this......

Does anyone have any experience with US Gear's brake? Maybe someone has looked into larger GVWR vehicles brake systems? US GEAR has this as well. A vendor here PDC Performance sells them. .....They ROCK!

it is the smallest part of my ex tho

and its also the most expensive part

if you bypass the brake i dont think it will slow ya down much

I meant bypass it when you are building a lot of boost and looking for positive horsepower. You would have to make sure the wastegate would not open when lots of drive pressure is built, only when lots of boost is.

anyways, these big brakes all mount after the turbos

i dont really see the reason for another gate to bypass the brake

just build the brake the right size in the first place...

taking a 4" brake (that is really only 3.5") and including some 5-4 reducers in the kit so they can call it a 5" brake just aint right

I can't change the way the brakes are built. I'm just suggesting ways to deal with what I'm given. I completely agree that they should be true advertised size, but I don't see how that changes what I need to do to incorporate the parts.

It is what it is, I suggest dealing with it or sourcing parts elsewhere. No sense in complaining.

how do you get lots of boost w/o drive pressure?


Positive drive pressure turning the turbine to build boost and power versus shutting a valve in the exhaust to slow exhaust flow and created a braking effect are two completely different things.

Gating around the brake while making power seems logical to me. Avoid the restriction and have fun. Then when the brake is needed, make sure that the gate isn't opened by the exhaust pressure when the brake is engaged. How to do it, I don't know, but I grasp the concept.

thats what i figured...

by the time you subract out the area of the shaft, plate and other crap it might be 4 inch on the i.d.

still bigger than what i got from em

i have a 4"inline from pacbrake... my problem is sealing at the turbine outlet to downpipe,,, it just will NOT hold pressure there.
i have some metalbestos rings i made at work i am going to install this weekend to see if it works.

bottom is a gt42.
 
Pac brake makes 5 inch stuff for the heavier trucks. I pruchased one for my truck after the twin turbo install. Just used all the turbo mount stuff I allready had (pump and stuff). I'd stay away from the vacume oporated brakes like Jacobs, Banks, etc etc. Your engine has to be reving decent to build enough vacume to shut the brake. The prxb is on and slams shut regardless of rpm. It has a bypass with spring tention to waste exhaust at higher rpm. I've noticed on my truck with twins it is a little slower to react having to fill both turbos and some downpipe length. It's livable by all means.
 
i have a friend with a 5 pacbrake we installed he"s running a silver 64 over a s480 i believe and the truck is 15,000 lb it works great but it does require a air compresser and tank
