Exhaust coming out the valves

Well hell. I pulled the head off and there is no apparent damage. #6 exhaust runner has metal flakes and the valve is coated in oil. So I am going to take it back to the machine shop tomorrow morning and have them inspect #6.
 
You taking the engine to them or just the head?

Did the metal shavings stick to the magnet or are they aluminum?

Sounds to me like you have piston/ring/cylinder damage.
 
^^^ that's what it seems. Metal shavings aren't a byproduct of combusting diesel. There's a problem somewhere

I think you're correct. The rings in #6 must have been on their way out with the previous blown headgasket, and with a new o-ringed head they must have blown out. Well I guess a rebuild is much cheaper without a destroyed head and piston. Here goes some$$.
