In the process of building my long time dreamed upon street/strip rig. 12v p7100, 14mm head & mains, girdle, cam, p&p head, runner intake, for my reg cab 1st gen. I had put together a compound kit for it back when it's original plan was purely a fun street truck, with a 62 over a 75. Now going a little more aggressive, put sticking with the 300/400, because it's the piping iv got at the moment. Been thinking a 64/80 or 82, or 66/88, or something in between, but that's not ironed out yet.

My questions about the external gates. I'd like to get an external Gate in my secondary to help lighting the large primary. I understand the concept of the wastegate, but not so much on the sizing of the gate. 35,40,50mm etc. Is there a formula to this? Are there differently types of gates, as in the physical engineering?

I hear guys running a variety of different sizes, and everyone says 'i haven't had any issues" I have got a gated steed speed, but would like to expand my knowledge, instead of "Eany, meany, miney, Moe" an external gate51xxTPGKuhL.jpg

ive never heard of the purpose of a gate being to drive the secondary. i understand why primaries are gated to the atmo so as not to waste the heat but i always understood the reason to gate was to control drive pressure. i have never needed bigger than a precision 46mm in my ford application but that doesnt help you. The only reason to upsize a gate would be if your drive pressure continues to climb uncontrollably after the gate is open.

I'm not talking about an external gate to drive my secondary. I'm talking about a external gate on my manifold, to bypass the secondary at set psi to protect from over spinning , and dunp into the hot pipe after the secondary exhaust housing, to help drive the primary. A wastegate to bypass the primary, to atmosphere may be needed eventually, but I don't know as my problem with past compound sets has been over spinning the secondary not so much the primary.
