I've got a 97 F-350 (6100lbs) with a 98 12v. The mods are: balanced 215 pump with 042's, 4K GSK, ground plate similar to a 100 ff, afc ff, max spool 2.5++ cam, .020 head gasket, 5x.016 sdx, ddp 66/74/1, 21* timing, 3 piece manifold and 4" downpipe ceramic coated to 5" over the axle, spearco intercooler, AirDog @40psi.
This has been almost a 3 year project. I finally got it on the road and made it to the track a couple weeks ago. Needless to say I was happy to run a 12.53@104.25. I was limited to 12 psi off the line due to wheel hop. Caltracs should soon cure that. My question is about fuel and egts. 1/4 the way down the track I'm pegging my 1600* pyro with just a slight haze. It looks like its running out of fuel but not by the egt gauge. I always hear guys running 600+ with this turbo but with my ET I'm around 525 with my 6100lb truck. I want to do the AFC mod but that will likely make my egts worse. This is strictly a play truck! I want to go faster but I don't know what to do next with out damage. I've heard of more fuel actually cooling egts on race trucks. Is that true? I see trucks on Youtube "dumping" fuel spoolin a 66. Mine spools so fast it just power brakes in 2wd with little smoke. Have I left out any info?

your running i 4wd right? if so you a missing something with only leaving at 12psi.. but thats still a good running truck at 12.5.. cal tracks will help..

Obs's have a lot of frame flex. They axle wrap horrible. Especially without traction bars. Get some traction bars on it and it'll launch way better. Also if you ever get the chance reinforce the frame.

Thanks guys! Yes, I'm running in 4wd. The video sucks but you can kinda see how the back end bounces off the line. Caltracs are definately next. I tried 20 psi and the whole truck hopped violently. Some angle or tubing isn't a bad idea to do some cross bracing between the rails. Could you watch the video? It sure doesn't smoke much goin down the track. What do you think about my egts and the possible afc mods I have yet to do? Will it be beneficial. I'm hittin about 52 lbs o boost.

i couldnt see the vid, it only came up as a picture..
at the et you running 1600* isnt bad.. just saying.. when you can leave harder you will see a better et as im sure you already know.. thats moving out pretty good and it will only get better..

What the heck, your cleaning the fuel up good! Even with 5x.016 and .042's. I'm looking to be in the 12.3-12.5 range with 5x.014 and .020's D Valves at 100psi fuel pressure.

Also, where into world do you live cause those aren't Utah mountains... Nice truck and fast spool up for the elevation.

On edit: I made my 12.73 run at 19psi of fuel pressure for reference.

My advice: Timing to 26-27 degrees, ditch the plate, and put a rack plug in it. When I used to have my truck lowered and with a s468 single it felt like it dropped two to three tenths from a best of 12.07 when doing what I suggested. I never found out unfortunately due to it popping the head gasket.

I just remembered you had some pump work done. I don't know if balancing resulted in advancing the plungers at all. You may want to talk to your pump guy before proceeding with the plan I suggested. Too much advance of the slot in the 215 plunger can create issues with rate from what I understand. My pump was a stock rebuilt unit.

Those are Alaskan mountains! The track is probably at 150ft elevation. 60 degrees that day. I'm anxious to see what the caltracs will do to my 60ft. I'm sure some better. I hear alot of people running 600-700+ hp with my same combo. Are those just dyno queens or time bombs? HP calculator says I'm about 520. I want a fast truck yet don't want to be doin a head gasket like NickTF was sayin. I'll try ditchin the plate and the afc mods for travel but then what? Thanks for the help so far.

Don't let the HG discourage you. Mine started down a path of blowing many months before I made the changes I did due to some crazy high drive pressure and boost caused by a spool flange not opening I tried years ago from performance metal works. When I put the power to it with the changes stated above it just put the nail in the coffin. Good o-ring and stud job and you'll be all set.

I couldnt see the video so i fixed your link so I could watch it. That thing is 2x cleaner than mine with this tiny 62

Oh ok. Thanks man. Its been in the garage for 3 years and finally out so I wanna keep it that way for a while. I will try ditching the plate but the timming is gonna stay for now. From what I've read, the mack plug doesn't do anything for the 215. I could easlily be wrong though.

I appreciate ya fixing the video. Now you see what I mean, the lack of full boost smoke. With that little amount I would think my egts would be way less than 1600+. What do ya think I should try?

Loose the plate, your fuel is nicely matched to your air right now. I could pull 1600 on stock sticks and turbo with no plate and afc mods.

Heres a video of the junker drag truck, hes got more fuel then you and twins makes 700+ at the rear wheels about as clean as yours going down the track. Im no tuning guru but i'd guess that a little more fuel wouldnt hurt you.

Do not put in the rack plug until you bump the timing. The rack plug on the 215 pumps does not work unless you put the timing where I suggested. I've tried it at low and high timing.

CalTracs just came in. I should be back at the track next week to see the difference. After a few runs I'll pull the plate and see what that does. Eventually down the line this truck will see 11's. As of now it's baby steps and learning, but I know it will get there. Thanks for your guy's help and more is greatly appreciated.

Nice conversion, nice color. Here's mine:

Did you use a BTS transmission?

Thyankyou, same to you. Yes I am running a BTS tranny and a PCS. I really like them both so far. How do you like your turbo? Mine surges bad when shifting to OD. I have to baby it or have it wide open in order to not surge. I'll be playing with the shift point and tps to help that. CalTracs are on but I haven't tried a 4wd launch yet. Might be another couple weeks till the next test and tune I can make to see the real difference.

The turbo seems to work pretty well, I had some surge issues early on but found that raising the shift point slightly and decreasing shift pressure helped a lot. I'd also recommend going to MAP for trans control as opposed to the TPS.

I didnt make it to the track yet but I ended up pulling my plate, doing the afc mods and playing with the afc with shop air. I can peg my 1600 pyro in about 4 seconds of wide open throttle. Spools quicker though with the adjustments and less surge into OD. In the bottom of OD it's building 58lbs and 52lbs in the higher rpms. Should be good at the track. Unfortunatly I'm regreting the Caltracs so far. If I stand on it below 50mph it turns into a bucking disaster. I'm still playing with them but the outlook is not good. To much axle wrap for them to work on my truck.
