Man, I wish I'd have known. I ordered one from FS1 on a friends INCORRECT recommendation that they'd bought a couple from them that worked well. After telling him of my experience he double checked and found it was actually a different company.

Here's my experience with FS1.

  • October 21 - ordered a PCM for my son's '06 Mustang.
  • October 24 - they emailed me that their license had expired and they were having to renew it.
  • October 25 - they emailed me that my order was delayed because they were moving and trying to stay open for business at the same time.
  • October 28 - they emailed me saying "the second module we had programmed is not performing up to our standards either" and that you're going to "outsource this unit from one of our trusted suppliers."
  • October 29 - they emailed me "Your Unit is in the final stage of programming and will be shipped out in the next 1-2 business days". They included a USPS Tracking Number for a shipment they had created but hadn't actually taken the package to USPS yet.
  • October 30 - USPS had not received the package from FS1 yet.
  • October 31 - USPS had still not received the package from FS1
  • November 1 - I called them first thing in the morning and spoke to a "manager" requesting a cancellation and refund. She said she'd have to get approval and call me back. She hadn't called back by 4:00 their time. I called back and held for over an hour. After 5:00 their time I hung up and tried to call back and they were closed, for the weekend. Went to voice mail.
  • November 4 - Called and would not let them put me on hold. Finally talked to "the owner" who said he'd check it out and call me back. I told him if I didn't get a refund by noon I was initiating a dispute with the credit card company. After their closing time I received an email from my bank that a credit had been initiated.

I made a couple of posts about my experience here. I also started researching rebuilders on the web and found this list. I tried to order one from O'Reilly's but, thankfully, when they went to ship it they didn't have it. I ended up ordering one from Auto Computer Specialists that was delivered on time and has been working great.

Well, I ordered Saturday. I received the warranty registration Saturday night. They replied back that the VIN I supplied wasn't eligible. I replied back to use a generic VIN and remove/disable skim.
Communication has been silent since that point.
I didn't dig around after I saw positive reports on the thread linked here.

So, I jumped on FS1 website at lunch and initiated a chat session. "Mark" checked status for me, said the VIN I gave them wasn't compatible. I had replied to an email on Saturday stating to use a generic VIN. He says he will let his account manager know.

So they called me about the VIN. I just emailed them with a compatible VIN.

I don't know at this point which is a better move. The warranty that made them attractive is useless if the product is smoke.

.... I mean, other than get my money back and shop car-part ???

I too tried to open and ECM from the '02 once. Totaled it. :D

I can perform trace repair if you guys have a few that are wrecked in the future.

If that one fails, I just picked up a 2007 automatic one from a truck with 105,000 on it for $575.
It's yours if you want it.

Now realize you'll have to program your VIN to it.
If you have EFI Live, that won't be an issue for you.
I'd do it for you, but the laptop I had all of that on suffered hard drive failure.
All those stock CMB/CMC files...lost, along with VIN changing ability. :(

Yeah, I got a tracking number 6 "Business Days" after my order. Five days later UPS STILL didn't have it.

The was the first excuse they gave me, that they couldn't program the VIN I provided them to the ecm.

I don't know if it's accurate, but it changed status between earlier and now.


While we're talking about files, I'm interested in an 06 file that has the exhaust brake enabled.
