Front crank seal

Found it :rockwoot:

When I put the new seal in I pushed it a little closer to the crank. I have a groove in the crank where the outter most lip of the seal is. That may be just for dust protection. Where the inner lip rides on the crank its still smoothe.

with everyone telling you to get the speedy sleeve you had it in your kit. and that groove on your crank is not normal and you dont just push the seal back farther you install that speedy sleeve to give the new seal a smooth surface to seal to. also if you dont install that sleeve with the new seal you recieved then it will leak very soon as the seal is a little bigger to take into account that your adding the speedy sleeve.

also make sure the seal goes in square to the crank not the cover, cause i did that and ended up cutting a groove in my speedy sleeve after 6 months and it started leaking again. that is what that piece of steel is that you have on top of your seal in the pic. when you drive the seal on finally that sets the depth and makes it flush with the crank.

subscribing.. im on my 2nd seal, and it still leaks like crazy! im going to try a speedy sleeve and see if that helps my issue..

It will, we use them all day long on semis, combines, tractors and tons of other stuff, they are gods gift to gearheads in my opinion.

My kit didnt come with a speedi sleeve. I was going to order one through SKF.

Maybe I'm confused here but the speedy sleeve I was referring too is made of steel and is used to repair the grooved diameter. The seal I ordered came with the plastic sleeve only used to install the seal on the crank right? The other part in the picture is used to install the seal in the cover and that's all I got. Thanks for the link

ok in the pic you have in the first post of this thread you have on the left the seal with a clear insert in it and on top of that you have the install tool on top of it and to the right is a thin steel circle that is the speedy sleeve which is what you think the speedy sleeve is. the other deal that is on top of your seal in the pic is used to set the depth and to make it square to the end of the crank

the clear sleeve is to help you slip the seal over the speedy sleeve as it is a nice snug fit to seal the end of the crank.

so get some green loctite which is a bearing retainer loctite to make sure it doesnt go anywhere and install the sleeve, then take the seal and start it in the cover flush with the front of the cover. take the clear sleeve and slip it on the crank then take the cover with the seal in it and push it onto the crank using the clear sleeve to center the seal on the crank and tighten the bolts on the cover so it wont move. take the item you have in the pic on top of the seal and use it to set the seal depth in the cover and also to keep the seal square to the crank.

hope this helps and the piece that appears to be your home made install tool if i am guessing right. i didnt pay attention to the size of it earlier so my bad for thinking it was your speedy sleeve. read that thread i posted a link to and get the part numbers off there cause the seals are made to the sleeves.

That part that looks like the tool I made is actually the part of the cover that sticks up for the seal to ride in.

whatever it is lol its been a long week and weekend dealing with a wedding and reception. didnt pay attention that you had all that laying on the front cover to start off with.

no problem hope you get it sealed up for good. i know its a pain in the ass to replace that seal every 6 months took me a couple times to figure out why it kept leaking.
