Ok got a 95 12v iv been fighting all week and running out of time. Had it like 2 monthes ago that it sat a few days came home started it fired right up then after about a min it started to die so I put the pedal to the floor to keep it running but then it eventually died after a min or 2 of running like crap. Pulled the filter off filled it up pumped the primer and it fired right up no problems since. Even after siting over a week at a time and driving it all over and puttingg a few thousands on it. Then friday fired right up pulled in the garage to put helper spring on the back. Went to pull it out fired right up then ran out of fuel. Pumped it up started it drive it around the block no problems. Gave it a few hours fired up again. Next morning start it and does half way down my driveway. Drug it in the garage fill the filter runs fine but now you shut it off and it won't even fire back up right after you shut it off. Next step I ran a hose from the pump into a gallon jug on the floor by the tire. Got it ruining fires up every time so I figure the line to the tank is bad since it looks like hell like is bleeding back. Ran a rubber line from pump to top of tank ran it around the block fine. Then this morning start it and it runs out of STILL!!! What am I missing. I now put a check valve in line by the tank and got it running and will see if it starts after work. Need any help I can get. Never had one fight me this bad.

something in the tank is plugging the end of the pickup tube

I thought about that but it will run fine for 20 **** it off for a few hrs stats fine then runs out if it was plugging the pickup it should of done it before

we had a skid steer at work have an issue like that and there was a piece of plastic in the tank and every so often it would get caught on the pickup tube. the customers just happened to slosh the tank around just enough to get it near the pickup tube and it would suck it up. the mechanic we had at the time went through all the trouble to replace the entire fuel system before another one found the plastic and trash in the tank.

i am with jeremy on this one. i guess you could check and see what the pressure is while its running to see if the lift pump is going bad.

Is the fuel heater letting in air??

^^ I wouldnt be surprised if it is the fuel heater. My 95 did the same thing yours is doing for about a month. I got rid of the fuel heater and havent had any trouble in the past year since then.

I've seen this same problem several times, get rid of the fuel heater and blow some air back into the tank while you've got the line off to clear anything out, you likely hear a big thud when it clears and you should be good to go!

On the stock trucks I've tested, 20-25 psi at idle, 25-30 psi at 2500 rpm free rev.

Your return valve might be the culprit then. My 94 would start at times and sometimes wouldnt start for about two wks and finally figured out it was that

Just replaced that so we will see. I though about that at work. Started after work but ran rough for 10 seconds and cleaned up.

The small bent rubber hose on the LP assembly can develop cracks sometimes too so it might be worth looking into as well, I usually replace it with a different fitting and some AD hose from my stash.

Thats all gone. I removed the fuel heater bowl and all that. I have a fitting off the pump running a line to a seperate filter then back to the tank.

Started ok this morning with a different overflow valve. Still ran rough but was could this morning and didn't seem like it was trying to run out of fuel. If it starts tomarrow I think its good.
