My fuel gauge quit working a week ago and I suspect the fuel level sending unit needs to be replaced.

Searching the internet revealed two different occasions where guys with 99' model truck were sold/quoted the wrong part from the Dodge Dealer.

I called my local dealer and they said I need #4897670ab.
All of the posts on DTR state that 99' needs #4897669ab.

Mopar Parts America and Mopar Parts Dealer both quote 4897670ab for 98-99 diesels.

I'm torn, which part do I need for my 99?

Someone, please help me order the correct part.

I don't have pictures of either one to tell the difference, all I know is they are different enough that you have to get the correct part.

Did they look it up based on your VIN?

Easy way out, PM Snedge with your VIN and a card number, wait for the brown truck to drop you off a present. He is quicker and cheaper than anywhere I have yet found for parts.

Good luck, did a 99 over the weekend. Gave the dealer the vin and still had the wrong one. One screws onto the module the other clips on.

They usually get it right when ordering by the vin, but there is the case that the module could have been replaced at one point. I think the orig module in your truck has metal feed and return line connections held into the top by a grommet. The replacement module has the connections molded into it as part of the module.

You can try looking on top of the tank at the lines to see which one you have. IIRC the module with the metal lines takes the screw on sender, and the all plastic one takes the clip on sender.
