Full Built vs. Full Billet pricing

Is anyone making intermediates that are holding up? Last time i heard some tranny builders didnt like using them. That the stock shaft had a little give and they were breaking more billet units than stockers.

I have read this on other threads too. But can not understand why they are saying it, but then again, I only know of the shafts that are made in the US.

theres a guy in eastern iowa that had this problem his truck is around 800 hp and he keep breaking the billet shaft and went back to a stock stock one that had alittle give and no problems since

What kind of coventers are these guys running that keep break these shafts...

Thoughts on tranny

That price quoted earlier in this thread for Garmon's billet that includes Opie shafts is IMO an outstanding price. I have a full billet and have loved every minute with it but if I had it to do all over again I darn sure would have one with the Opie shafts. All of Opie's stuff is made for the 25% of us who know no limits.

Another thought,... one post here said he didn't need the flex plate. That would be a HUGE mistake IMO. I was barely approaching 600hp and mine blew like a handgrenade. It is an experience you won't soon forget and it cost me a rear main cap,... a front pump and a torq converter. The flex plate should be an absolute MUST DO on a performance build.:tree:

I couldn't agree more about replacing the flex plate, after seeing & holding the stock one I really can't believe they ever installed that...ROB

BUT on a 2nd gen, the stock flexplate will hold over 800hp. Lots of people, even some tranny builders, still havent figured it out for 3rd gens. Flexplates can break at less than 500hp. Ive blown one under WOT. Like stated, it's something you will never forget.

9K, holy poop!!!! Like Swole said, call him or Jeff Garmon. $6250 for everything, done deal. OPIE shafts as well, just can't beat it...

Thanks, but I will stick with my DTT. With all the custom parts in my tranny @ 9k was a good deal.

Also agree with others. Flexplate upgrade a must IMO.

2nd gens it is not except for pretty much the most extreme cases.

I've been told the reason the flexplates break on the 3rd gens is that the pump on them since it runs higher pressures and spins up quicker puts more stress on the flexplate. Don't know how of that I believe (makes some sense) but that's what I was told.

just put an ats stage 2 in the bosses truck with converter it was right around 4750 plus freight. has billet input shaft and converter. works great

billet flex plate isnt needed there are alot of cheaper ones out there! mine was under $200

I will dig up the reciept to get a name- the shop that recommended it has had his in his pulling truck for 5 years and never had a problem with it!!!!! under $200 WORKS FOR ME-- leaves $400 to spend on other goodies:rockwoot:

contact ben @ North East Performance Diesel and ask about the flexplate put in Joels' truck
