Fummins cabin noise

Anyone have any insight on the spray on stuff? Lizard skin, boom mat, etc..

My noise appears to be coming from the top of the firewall, I would almost think, if I was to pull my cowl panels, under the wipers, and soundproof that would certainly help? Is there room with the wiper's trans. to fit? Thanks, Artie

When I put the Dynamat on my cowl by the wipers it made a lot of difference.

How much of this work can be done with the engine still in place? I regret not doing this sound material the two times I had the motor out....

What he said. Lots of sheet metal between the engine and your ears, put some kind of sound deadener on anything you can reach, and you will be pleasantly suprised

A stock hood liner with all the holes in the hood filled with Roxsul makes a big difference.

A whole bunch of noise can come from the gear shift boot if you are running a manual transmission. Try using the 08+ Ford shifter boot. It really quiets down the noise through that route.

Are you getting clutch noise ?

The mounts are from Diesel specialists
Pictures ? Are they an industrial mount or an automotive mount ?

Here is what I run, but I have a CR, not a 12V.

That isolator is from an early 12V. Its not the best, but it works. Its actually too soft for the torque the engine makes.

I am not getting any noise from my trans. From what I can try to drive and pinpoint my noise is coming directly behind the gage cluster, and when I removed the gage's bezel the noise increased. The Cummins higher pitched noise seems to bounce around, direct and indirect noise. I have Dynamat style deadning and I don't know if I need more of a sound absorbing type of material. I plan to put something on the back side of the plastic gage bezel, as well in the windshield wipers transmission cowl area. I have my Cummins air intake plumbed over to the 7.3's air cleaners box and picking up some air intake noise, as the air cleaner's cold air intake going to the front grille is missing.

Check the reubber seal that is for your brake assy.take a light and put it uder your dash at night and look under the hood to see any light.

I used a flashing material you can get from Home Depot or Lowes it comes in a roll 25' long and about 6" wide it is aluminum faced and butyl backed very similar to dynamat. cost less than $20.00 a roll I used 1.5 rolls I removed the factory sound mat on my firewall and installed 2 layers of this stuff while I had the motor out. I even put a layer on the hood on the thin spots and filled the supports with a spray on undercoating. Then I re-installed the factory mat to the firewall. Inside my truck it is just a little bit louder than my 6.0 and nowhere near as loud as the 2003 7.3l I test drove. I am going to add this stuff to the floor and rear wall of the cabin when I get some time.

take a beer coosie (sp?) the foam insulation things for soda and beer cans and fit it to your steering column. That is supposed to help a lot.. I'm planning on trying it my self.. you may even be able to beef it up with more sound deadner material. I want to do my whole excursion.. its over 200 square feet though if you do the roof floor and the inner and outer doors etc.. argh so its expensive.. still worth it, also the vinyl tubing in the door rubber seals..helps too
Thanks,
Deo

Thanks everyone for the info. I do have a tight seal between my cowl and brake booster. I'm truely convinced that the windshiels wiper trans area is what needs work, as the sound is located higher in the cabin. I think some sound absorber mat on the back side of my dash bezel will absorb some noise.
