GM of Ford Dana 60??

stock 14 bolts will hold 800 horsepower from a gasser, the same with a NP205......after that and you start to strain stuff, but anything thats stock will be strained with over 800 horsepower........

what will it hold, in your opinion, behind a diesel.

It's gonna be behind a 650-750 rwhp Duramax. Bare in mind, the duramax's torque won't be as high as other diesels but still a good bit higher than gassers at those power levels.

If you can keep the set-up right so it wont eat pinion suppoert brgs, and use a Dutchman or comparable shaft, you should be fine... in my opinion

i would say your gonna be pushing the limits of it, go with a spool and good axle shafts, ALSO swap it to disk brakes, they are SOOOOOO much lighter, it will let you hang another suitcase weight on the nose.....

LMFAO!!!!:hehe::hehe::hehe:

I got so sick of swapping 14 bolts in a 2wd mildy bombed gasser, I went away from Chevy FOREVER!

WEAK!WEAK!WEAK!
rant off

what 14bolt where you breaking 9.5, 10.5, or 11.5. and what parts were you breking? just asking cause Ive seen them take some serious shock loads w/ guys running 44s and 500hp and they keep trucking. i say run the 14bff there a dime a dozen and you can pick up shafts for next to nothing

is this what they use the brass piece for??? Where can I find some more about securing the bearings better???

I'm not so much worried about the front 60 and transfer case as I am about the 14bolt. The front GM D60 can accept some massive shafts that sure I won't be able to snap. The 14b however, I have not been able to find comparable things...

As for the brakes. The disc brakes are good and cheap so they'll be one of the first things I'm doing since the P.O. says the rear brakes currently aren't working. :bang

Weight savings probably isn't going to be an issue. The truck was a gas puller previously in a pretty hot small block class so I'm gonna assume it was probably a 6200 or 6500 # class like they are around here. That said, I have a LOT of weight to get because he is giving me the 1000#s he had to make weight in his class.

you can get chromo shafts for the 14bff, but the stock ones will take some abuse

Hey Mitch remember Wayne ran a 14 bolt in his blue truck and a 205 and never had any problems out of it hooked to the sled at close to 500Hp.

Andy

I hope so. I'm gonna probably get a Dana 80 ready and waiting to go in when/if the 14b lets go unless I find some bigger/better axles for the 14bolt. I know it's apples to apples but I got a few folks I'm gonna pick their brain's about these trucks for pulling. They are pretty well known in the gasser pulling classes around here so hopefully they'll be able to help me out. Guess I'll go to 35 spline inners and outers on the front when they let lose and maybe look into a stronger locker if the lockrite turns out to not be strong enough.

I think that front locker living will depend on tire choice and weight hanging off the front.

probably right... Thing is, the truck is probably set up for running in a 6500# class AND he still has a front weight rack with 1000# for it. I hope I don't have to accumulate 1500-2000 MORE pounds somewhere.

Redoing some things like the interior with modern components will add some weight and adding the D/A and corresponding components will add quite a bit of weight compared to his previous SBC/SM465 setup. So I should only be hanging 1000 or so out front by the time it's ready hit the track.

Yeah I remember Wayne added a good bit but he had that rack built in the front of his bed he added weight on and it distributed pretty even because his was a long bed. If you need any help with it Mitch you know how to get ahold of me.

Andy

search for scs they make the same axles for a 14 bolt that they have for a d-80. i doubt these will break. at least ive never seen them snap.

yes. Thanks. I also spoke with Sniper (can't recall his real name right off but according to him, he and wayne built the truck so he knows a great deal about the conversion as well and is online more) a little while back and he offered to answer any questions I might have. :Cheer:

yeah, I've been there but they don't list the 14bolt axles... I guess I'll contact them directly when it comes time to make purchases...

I've also looked for better shafts for the NP205 from Pro-Fab but they don't list them on their site but I've read about them in magazines and on 4wheeling forums. Same deal, I'll have to contact them when the need arises.

Yeah Chad(sniper) helped Wayne and Nick out quite a bit in building that truck. Chad is always willing to help tear something apart or put it back together.:hehe: I'm going to see if I can get him and Danny to help me when I tear mine down.
