good power but low smoke. ???

i just got a 96 5speed its got good power but doesnt smoke much so i dont think its getting full fuel. i changed the fuel filter and cleaned the strainer and took the fuel plate out n still low on smoke so i removed the afc and took it for a drive but still dont smoke as much as i think it should. the shutdown seloniod is getting full travel and i stretched the spring in the overflow valve to just over a half inch cause it was a little short. its got good boost and i can get the egt to 1000* post turbo but idk what fuel pressure is since i have no gauge yet it smokes some when i first hit the throttle before boost comes up but at full throttle its just a slite haze i also checked to make sure its getting full throtle so my questioin is how much should a stock 12v smoke with no fuel plate or afc? sorry for the long post just trying to giv as much info as possible. thanks
 
question: are you trying to get it to smoke just to drive down the streets and roll coal on everyone? If so this is the wrong place cummins forum is what you are looking for.
 
A lightly modded 12v won't smoke.....well, the 215 pump trucks are pretty gnarly, but yours won't smoke much without some big injectors and laser cut delivery valves.
 
im trying to get my truck the run the way it should. from what i have read with no fuel plate in it should smoke like a freight train and be slipping the clutch but its not even close and it is a 215 hp pump. maby its running fine for a stock truck but thats what im trying to find out
 
Maybe you should take it to some one that knows what they are doing instead of trying to do it yourself. Not everybody is cut out to tune things

It doesn't matter what you do. You can tune a stock truck all you want, It's not gonna smoke like a freight train... A freight train will really put the coal out, have you seen one?
 
I hope I have this problem when my build is done!! 850HP and a slight haze!!!




On a side note ......I really want EFI Live!!!!! Please hurry on release date!
 
The age old "block the air intake" trick really works well. Just mash it from there! Good luck man!!!
 
More smoke doesn't always equal more power....I think that is why you're getting a lot of crap.

I think what he's asking, and doesn't know that he's asking it, is why isn't he getting as much fuel as he thinks he should.

1. What's your fuel pressure
2. How much boost at WOT
