good power but low smoke. ???

you guys need to calm down i never said i wanted to blow smoke everywhere you guys arent understanding my question im not trying to make smoke but im trying to find out if its getting the amount of fuel it should be getting based on the amount of smoke. i just dont think its getting all the fuel it should be. i always heard the 215hp p pump flowed so much fuel wich is why i bought the truck because im going to build it into a pulling truck.

X2

I think what he's asking, and doesn't know that he's asking it, is why isn't he getting as much fuel as he thinks he should.

1. What's your fuel pressure
2. How much boost at WOT

Start by answering those questions.

Also, have you checked your fuel filter?

i dont know what fuel pressure is yet because i dont have a gauge yet but im going to order 1. i just changed the fuel filter and cleaned the strainer and stretched the overflow valve spring to just over a half inch and im going to order a new 1. i can peg the 35lb boost gauge

That much air, even out of a 215(stock), should clean up your fuel pretty well. Get a fuel pressure reading at idle, cruising, and WOT and report back with findings.

madmikeismad thank you!!! u have been decent helping me with my prob and I will def let u know what I find out when I get a fuel pressure gauge. if I am cleaning up all my fuel with that much boost then great but I just wana make sure before I start building it

i got a new overflow valve and fuel pressure gauge installed today and the fuel pressure is around 23lb at idle and about 7lb at wot. i think thats on the low side but maby not i also put in a new boost gauge and boost was just under 40lb at wot and the egt got to about 1100* post turbo witch i thing is pretty high. any suggestions?

Lift pump upgrade before any other mods. You are boarder lining the safety line with 7 psi at WOT. Start with lift pump then some injectors and some delivery valves but have a clutch on standby as the stock one will be worthless at that point. Good luck with your build keep us posted maybe with some dyno sheets to!

i thought thst was low too but what kind of lift pump should i get a stock replacement or and airdog/fass this is going to be a pulling truck and i want to make a min of 700hp and i dont want the lift pump to be the liliting factor. thanks

Just build the truck up one step at a time. You will learn as you go. You can't just put a minimun 700HP on the list and expect to get there easily.

Just bring that truck to sunny PA and drop it off at my shop for some MFiLive! Guaranteed it'll run if you can handle my WFS!

Everyone does need to start somewhere, no one is born a diesel genius . And it doesn't sound like you want to drive around and black out neighborhoods , it also sound like your doing a pretty good job of reading the signs your truck is giving you . It would be nice to tune solely on a track or dyno but that just isnt practical . Anyway you can do some searching there are a ton of discussions regarding lift pumps fass/ airdog And incase you were un aware there are some mechanical set ups other then stock like the assassin from dtt. they all get the job done well .the ultimate decision is up to you
Good luck on your build

I have an airdog on my puller n love it but that doesn't mean a fass wouldn't work they are both good pumps. My advice to you is do a lot of listening and reading before you purchase anything. Read what combos are working then search prices and try to find something in the middle. Start here in the dyno forms and read up on some 12v builds. Also don't buy a lift pump until you figure out what your p pump us going to flow cc's wise and what mm size. When you get into the big fuel delivery sometimes the airdog and fass do not offer a big enough pump to support your injection pump. Then you can run like an aeromotive 1000 or something like that. You should have no problem hitting 700 hp with a built 12mm and some sort of airdog or fass. Good luck bud keep your head up!

cummin get it thanks thats the kind of answer i was looking for i thought that maby the airdog/fass wouldnt flow enought fuel with a big injection pump n thats what i wanted to know and the reason i havent bought one yet. i have an airdog 150 on my 03 and i can pull the pressure down some at wot. i havent decided if im going to have my inj pump built by the shop im having the head work done or just buy one from a place like II or somewhere but im going to either get a 2.8 or 3.0 turbo so im going to need a good amount of fuel but havent got that far into the build yet. thanks to everyone that posted a comment that helped and to everyone that is being an a$$hole stay off my post unles you are going to answer my questions and help. thanks again

real hp numbers from real pump cc's - Competition Diesel.Com - Bringing The BEST Together

Read this thread it's still open so there is fresh input as you read you will find that with good tuning you can make about 1.75hp per cc of fuel in the 12v. So to give you some play room maybe shoot for 600cc's that should get you enough fuel for 700hp. You can get that out of a 12mm pump. But on the airdog or fass idk maybe someone else will chime in it would be close. I would say you prob don't want your pressure dropping below 18@ WOT and I think it would be boarder line if those pumps can do that. But then again I've heard 01ppump's nasty 13mm pumps are fed by airdogs so idk. In still vp power I got minimal experience on p pumps.
