got on it . now wont start

doesn't cylinder pressure push back up through the Injectors and force air into the fuel lines?

cracked 5 lines and fuel is low on # 1. # 4 is coming out like crazy and the rest are putting out too. still nothing.

Thats not good! I've seen this symptom twice and both times it was a dead VP. On my truck I hit a bump in the road while one it hard and it killed the truck. Cracked the lines and #4 would shoot out like crazy and the others would just dripple fuel. After trying everything I finally just bought a new pump and it fixed it. Close to the same thing happened on a friends truck.

Try to find yourself a Cummins 'hot box' to use. It hooks up straight to the VP at the big plug on the back and you can use it to manually run the pump, if the pump is still good. Local Dodge dealership here let me use there box.

I am willing to bet that there are a number of VP44 that have been given up for dead that are actually still ok. This way you can know for sure.

You know hotrodding it when its cold is really bad on the engine.

x2 Dude let your engine warm up!

Also, when I had my '02 it would air lock really easy. I was running A LOT of fuel. I destroyed a
n hx-50 one time going down the track and the engine air locked so bad that I thought I had destroyed my engine from the low compression sound it made when I turned it over. If ever I had to let off quick, I just feathered the throttle a little and it was fine.

I knew better than to jinx my self by answering this thread. Yesterday was first day with no rain since putting larger turbo so went warm his ass up. It spools to where I can light it up now when stalling it up (could not before). So I get back home and have a burnout under the carport habbit:hehe: turned off the OD and let her rip into high gear and lifted quick and died out!:kick:
Started spinning it over and sounded like air in it so spin, spin, spin, stop.Spin spin,spin,stop.:bang. Spin spin spin spin varoooom!:charger::rockwoot:
What a scare!:redx:
Thinking about what just happened is I think combustion pressure got past the injectors enough to airate fuel in the injectors & lines.$.02
Difference is I could hear it trying to start.:Cheer:

pulled pump out, bad pump only 2 months old. guess i learned my lesson. pump locked up and mushroomed the keyway. new pump on the way

Sorry to hear that, but atleast you know now and can get the truck goin again.

Same thing happened to me a week ago. Cracked 1,3,4,5 and just dribbles of fuel, 1 was coming out the best jst barely spraying. Powered up the vp via pin 6 and pin 7 nothing. The bd vp44 was bought in may 09 so still under warranty sent it in and bd says the pump is seized. Now just hope they replace it.
