This is on my ford conversion;

I need the power steering pump, dont need the vacuum pump. So, will it do any harm to take the vanes out the pump and block the fitting? (one that is supposed to supply the brake boooster)

Im assuming that it still needs the oil supply line correct?

Ya know, for a bunch of people that constantly break crap Id assume that one of you uns would know if this thing will work without the guts. LOL

That's cause they are all outside fixing the stuff they broke. LOL

I dont see why it wouldnt work fine, been a long time since ive been in a vac pump but id say ya you'd still need the oil feed. I acually removed my vac and PS pump today and made an alum. cover to bolt back over the hole. Sure looks cleaner w/o it, has anyone thats ever removed thiers driven anything else from there? Seems like a killer place to run a water or fuel pump, I suppose it runs at or faster than crank r's, its a small gear and I didnt remove the front cover yet to compair gear diameters.

Couldn't you utilize the vacuum pump to help ventilate the crank case? Might steal a pony to or two to drive the pump even vaneless so you might as well pick up a pony or two by pulling a vacuum on the crank case.

I think the vacuum pump vents back into the motor. You would be just move air and not gain. It's a vain pump so removing the vains couldn't hurt anything.

On the 4bt, we have powersteering pumps that bolt directly to the gearcase. Ebay should have them. Just a suggestion.

You will still need an oil line, but you should be fine with leaving the vanes out if you want to.

If you could find a PS pump that bolts onto the case and will eliminate the vacuum pump that is the way I would go. It should look a lot cleaner that way.

What if one wants to remove the ps pump and just run the vac pump? Is there a cover for the rear of the vac pump I can order?

Why bother with gutting it? I have ran mine without anything hooked up to it for a while with no ill effects.

I pluged mine off on my Fummins until the Ford Vac pump took a dump so I finnally used it.

Id like to gut it and delete the oil feed, problem is it needs that aparently.

Anyone got a PN for a 4b power steering pump?

There's no more new old stock and Cummins doesn't make them any more. I found mine on 4btswaps.com. I think it was under $200.

Got the replacement for Brandon's on Ebay...also approx. $200

No part numbers that I could find on it either!

Scott @ TN Diesel Conversions (also a site sponsor) should have one laying around. He goes by CrewCab59.
