a hand throttle pump is only going to be good on a rsv conversion pump which you remove the govenor on the back of the p pump and which takes some where up to 20% of the engines power to spin you could do it on a regular one but no great benifit would be seen power wise hand throttles are for a direct linkage to the rack and alot of rpms to run down the track hope this helps

20%?? Isn't that number a little high? I would buy that running the total pump might eat up 20% but don't think the govenor setup eats that much.

That would be 140HP on a 700HP engine is going just to the govenor, not counting what is needed to actually do the work of pumping the fuel.

I'd agree...simple physics/ common sense will tell you that turning a cam which pushes against hydraulic (fuel) and spring pressure takes a lot more energy than spinning a set of centrifugal weights...I think he 20% is correct for the entire pump, not the gov...

i was going for the pump total the rsv govenor will reduce alot of it from what ive been told ill find out in a few months or so

I think that with tractors it is push, that way they can easily rig up a return spring or dead man. $.02

My question is push or pull on the hand throttle? Whats the norm with those with one?
Normaly it is push. When you set it up you want your arm in the locked straight position,so if the truck does something funny such as bounce or anything you can stay in control of the throttle.I have seen them used in a pull type manner but not very often.

Mine is a push and set up just like undercover says, full arm lock is WFO. If you use smooth enough linkage, the throttle will return to near idle if you let go of it without a return spring.

A friend is putting one on his Duramax. Also if a guy had a manual trans and large charger, would it give you more control when spooling the turbo?

if one foot holding the brake and one foot to ride the clutch it would give your right or left hand somthing to do
it would be easyer then having one foot do two things
