Hardcore 6.4 Parts

We often refer to people like that as "more money then brains"

HMMMM, Really, I beg to differ.....(I don't have much money though, LOL). What draws more attention, a Dodge with a built Cummins, or a Cummins swapped into a ford? Using your logic Jeff, at SEMA, everyone would have the same stuff in their booth.

You're proving my logic.. Using two known good things that people love.. a Cummins into a Ford truck. You can't exactly say the same for a powerstroke that has had a difficult time making power without an insane amount of money until recently. And everyone bragging about 700 hp isn't 1,000 "yet". Who knows what the engines will be like at 1k+.

And you've got plenty of money.....

Not to mention that SEMA is aftermarket, not just competition.. I don't think a Bently with 26" diamond encrusted wheels is going to do much drag racing.
 
i think the 6.4 is an excellent platform to start making performance parts for!
you can have just shy of 600 hp on tune alone! not to mention 700-750 with tune and spray and a built trans. and now guys are starting to put nozzles and bigger HPFP's on as well as modified turbos. i say make some better flowing heads, there are two egr delete kits out right now, so im not sure if we need more of those. maybe start on internals now and have them ready for when guys finally find the limits of them. i know our pushrods are only good to about 4000 revs then they start to bend so maybe some of those. i say possibilities are endless.

Agreed..... Mine will be at 580 rwhp or so with tuner intake and exhaust in the next few weeks. For about $2500. Cant achieve those numbers safely with any other 3/4 ton diesel for under $2500 that I know of. Tranny will hold it too but for how long? They say if you don't beat it everyday it will last, it is when you start spraying and in the 600+ is when you need an upgrade. It cost around $10000 to make my old duramax put that out and hold it at the track. Yes it can be done cheaper but that was the route I went.

The market is no where near as big as the other big 3 yet. But the community is growing fast for the 6.4. One issue is the motor will have a production line of 3 years. You will still have plenty of people with performance 6.4 motors but you might look even further into the future and consider the 6.7 scorpion performance parts. I believe that motor will be here for some time.

Not when you have the ability to make most of the parts yourself.. all it takes is some time and figuring things out.... I'd rather look at a 700 horse 7.3 than a 800 horse cummins.... they are nothing new. I like new and different things.
 
6.4 hard parts

Just me but I'd rather spend the money and have a ford with an international engine be very competitve and beat some cummins guys than just have another good running dodge cummins.... "Dare to be different" Next on my list of projects is a V8 powered ford.......

I like to see different things, this is why I dont really go to truck pulls anymore. Who wants to see 50 dodges pull within 10ft? NOT ME.

I do like watching Mod trucks and Semi classes!
 
6.4 hard parts

Your knowledge is clearly limited if you are looking for "the largest demand hardcore parts" and you are considering the 6.4 as the platform. ANY Cummins part would prob. sell 10 to 1 over a 6.4 part if it was truly cutting edge. About the only diesel engine I could think of with a lower customer base would be a 6.5. Just too new of an engine with a limited following for high horsepower use. Post up a few of those names your guy did "R & D" for too while you are at it. Hemi funny car engine in a street car :hehe:

Yes.. Competition diesel is filled with people who want to be second best.... (well technically they're third, behind duramax)
 
Well you can be a follower and build a 700-1000hp cummins and be like everyone else out there. Or you can be unique and different and build a 850hp 7.3 that runs 10.8's like zane koch, or have a 1000hp 6.0 like shawn ellerton, or even a 1000hp 7.3 like blowby. or if you wanna get crazy build you a 1500-2000hp sledpullin 7.3 like ben miller or billy zimmer. now those are some trucks that took alot of time, money, patience and definate skill! not that buildin a 700-1000hp cummins is easy and skilless but its somethin that has been done countless times because its the easiest route!

There are reasons for that being easy. Mostly because you don't have to reinvent the wheel.

im not sure about this whole "hard core parts" thing, but you may wanna build something of your own and make it work, then go from there. noone's gonna want your parts unless their is some proof there.

nope i did not say that i was using examples of people that did something different! Read a little more carefully next time, and if i made it sound different i apologize. Now im not sayin that guys with a cummins over 700 horse is lame and not impressive cause it is and if it is reliable as well thats freakin awesome too. i just think its gettin to be common is all, kinda how you look at old hot rods and you ask the guy what he has in it most of the time it a chevy 350. and for good reason you can make good power and they are cheap and easy to build. cummins is the same way (maybe with the exception of cheap haha) they are easy to build and reliable if you build them right.
 
Forgetting the coolness factor of being different. From a manufacturing stand point, wouldn't it make more since to build a head for an engine that has been run more than 3 years? No one has made an aftermarket head for a Cummins (that I know of) so there would be no competition . If I were going into aftermarket production I would start there. Then go after the other motors in the order of popularity. Specializing only limits your potential. $.02 Rich
 
im not sure about this whole "hard core parts" thing, but you may wanna build something of your own and make it work, then go from there. noone's gonna want your parts unless their is some proof there.
