For the guys running over 4500 what dampners are yall using? Pros and cons of each brand? Gonn have to pick one up in the near future. Let the opinions fly.

Wonder why they wouldnt want to included the timing marks on a already custom built from scratch balancer, why would any one want to put timing tape on a new dampner that cost so much money.... it should come standard. As of now I still run the stock unit but would really like a upgraded dampner for sure, I understand the other brand has the numbers made right on it as it should for all thier cost. JMO

Going with ATI main reason is the timing marks, I have tape but it will fly off

for the 3rd gens anyway, there is a TDC mark but that's it.

Thats what I am leaning tward Rodney. Not a bad price either. Let me know what kind of deal you run across.

Well ya.. a TDC mark is manditory on a dampner. But after years of racing 360* of timing marks on the dampner is very useful for many things, exp. phasing cams and setting lash.

I said that because I've heard the earlier models didn't have it.

What have yall found to be the best place to get a ATI, and whats the aprox. cost?

I would like to know as well. I am running the Fluidampr right now, it's great but I would also like to try the ATI for performance reference.

Ok, I dont dought it but cant imagine a dampner w/o a TDC mark?
The dampner only serves a couple purposes and besides keep the lower end harmonics in check, the referance of degrees of crankshaft rotation is the next in importance, thats what im looking for in a aftermerket dampner anyway.$.02
I see things could be looked at diff. though on a late model CR where everything is handled by the ecm, cam and crank sensors and such...... sorry I was only thinking tward the ol mechanical 12v, now for the money they cost a dampner for a mechanical injection engine should have a full 360* of timing marks. And when I buy one it will.... tell then the stocker is getting the job done, to those that would care, I had a few hundred passes on this engine from last year and when I freashened it up this winter the mains and rod bearings literally looked like brand new, thats with the stock dampner and always lots of rpm...

The ATI damper is nothing but a rubber o-ring damper. They need rebuilt alot more often than you would expect. ATI is about 10 minutes from my house and is one of the worst places I have ever dealt with. I put 1 on a friends truck who insisted on using 1 "because he had 1 on his mustang and it was great". After 2 rebuilds of the damper after wearing out and wiping out the CPS sensor he put on a fluidampr. The difference was immediately apparent.

I had the opposite experience with ATI. Mine served as an early warning when a flywheel bolt backed out. It's been good and in spec since spring 2005.

Even funnier. Those fools borrowed my stock damper and tone ring to build a damper for a CR almost 2 years ago and it's still not out. Trust me, they know so little about diesels in that place it's almost laughable. A-B between the 2 brands on the same engine and it is obvious.

So that must be why most of the Modified Diesel Pulling Tractors run what? And for how long have they been? I have heard that with the fluidamprs, on the 5.9's, there is a weird vibration that starts in at 4200 and it never clears out. That is why you see a lot of the mod guys switching to ATI.

Does the damper on the 8.3 cummins have degree marks on it? Most big truck engines come with degree marks. Would one bolt on to a 5.9 crank?
