I have bought a set of Kool Vue towing mirrors for my truck. They looked good on the truck, but ran into problems on them. When I put them on the wires must have gotten in a bad spot and got cut. After fixing the wires, the motors don't work on them. I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with these, or if they are even a good quality mirror? Also is there any way to fix them? Just looking for some info on this. Thanks in advance. lbdodge24v

I have a set and like them alot. I had the same problem that you had with cutting the wires and was able to get them warrenty, but other than that no problem with them so far.

I cut a channel in the plastic to keep it from pinching the wires when I installed mine.

They have worked perfect. They beat the hell out of those stupid mickey mouse ears that came from the factory. It was worth every penny!

Well I have called the place I bought mine from, Car Part Wholesale and they can't do anything about them cause they say its not there problem. I called Kool Vue, and all they say is if I want to fix them I need to order a new set. But when I ordered mine they screwed up the order and I wound up with two sets, thinking about putting the new ones on, and selling the broke ones for a good price. Also one of the motors burned up in mine.

I found mine on the internet. they are part number DG49ER and DG49EL, you will also need the brackets to go in the doors to reinforce them, found them here http://www.fenderworld.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/5241823/vpcsid/0/SFV/32602 . As for the mirrors plenty of places on the net have them, got mine from Carparts Wholesalers, but wouldn't go that route again. They have them at http://www.discountautomirrors.com/catalog/?N=0&uts=true&Ns=price8|0&Ntt=DG49ER. Best of luck with them, make sure not to cut the wires when you put them on.

I'll have to check them out. I been wanting to get some tow mirrors for mine instead of these ugly mickey mirrors. Thanks for the links

if you dont have power then get the mopar mirrors. they look identical but imo they are a little better quality. friend of mine has kool vue on his truck and they cost about the same (think they were more expensive for kool vue actually). he had some of the studs pull out of the mirror and they only came with one backing plate

Got mine here:

They had the best price at the time.. Still looks like they are very competative.

Make sure you order the power/heated mirrors if you already have power/heated. In my humble opinion, it is worth it. It is also kind of a neat feature to have power/heated tow mirrors, since to the best of my knowledge Dodge never offered them on 2nd gen trucks!

they never did but you can make a set if you buy un-powered ones for a second gen and a pair of power ones for a third gen. sounds pricey and initially it will be, but then you have a set of un-powered third gen ones that you can sell

I've been quite happy with the quality of the Kool-Vues on my '01 compared to the OEM towing mirrors on the '05.

I was happy with the looks of mine, they just didn't really make a good place to put the wires through. So I was trying to which way to go, try and fix what I have, even though one has a motor messed up already, or put the other set of new ones on and hope for the best with them. After some slight motifications of course.

I ended up cutting a groove in the aluminum brace to put the wires to make absolutely certain they did not get damaged. They could have come up with a better solution for sure...

I agree with that completely. I am going to cut a spot out of the plastic in the back of the mirrors, that looks like a brace that way maybe it won't cut them twice. Could have come with a picture of how to run the wires or something.:hehe:

It's not plastic, contrary to looks, it's aluminum. I thought it was plastic too and had a heck of a time with my little dremel tool; just thought I should give you a heads up. $.02

We need pictures!!

I am also looking heated set for my 98 and I would like to knew what type of modification is needed to do.

I am not taking the mirrors back off for pictures as it is a bit more work than I would like. All I did was cut an approximately 3/8" groove in the bracing for the wiring to fit through comfortably without any chance of crimping. It surprised me though as it looked like the bracing was plastic, but to my surprise it was aluminum and thus took a bit more work than initially anticipated. Beyond that detail though I have been very pleased with these mirrors.

buddy of mine bought a set and loves them he hasn't had any problems as of yet.

I put a set of the Kool Vue mirrors on my truck. I had the power/heated regular mirrors on the truck and didn't want to loose the power or heat but really wanted the towing mirrors. They make it a lot nicer towing a wide trailer. Plus I was happy to keep the power and heat because I wouldn't have gone with the towing mirrors and lost that. I've had good luck with them so far. Got the mirrors online and the backing plates from the Dodge dealer.
