Has anyone here bought a set of towing Mirrors?

Here is what we did to one of mine before we found the motor was shot also. Not very clear, but i will see if i can get a better pic of if need be.

That's pretty much exactly how I did mine as well...

Make that 3.

And it is a 2 person job. Really. You need 1 person to hold the mirror up, and the other to pull the wires through and get that nuts started on the studs.

I've pulled a few trailers since, and I still haven't bothered to flip them out. They work great just the way they are.. If I was towing anything over 20', I would probably flip them out and give it a shot.

Ive got the Power/heated on my 99 and since i put them on ive been having problems...

the heat works its just the power thats Effed up.. no matter which way i try to move the mirror with the control they just go down...up is down, left is down, right is down :bang:

I called KoolVue and they said "sorry cant do anything"
and thats that

Have you pulled them back apart to check for pinched wires? I am willing to bet that is what you have. Have seen it many times on the forums and almost always it's the wires that are the problem.

I will agree, KoolVue is no help on problems, might as well ask the truck what the problem is, it might actually know!

wish i would of known about these mirrors when i bought the factory ones. At least these have heat and power and they look identical!

There's already a slot cut for the wires. If you look at the picture above, the slot is just above where the wire loom comes out of the base. You just bend the loom around and stick it in that slot and up through the opening and then it makes the 90 to go into the door. It's a PIA, but that's how it's supposed to work.
I had the same "pinched wires" problem with both of mine. I took them back off, repaired the wires and ran them through that slot.

Now, the drivers side took a crap first. I also didn't have any control even after repairing the wires. Just for sh!ts and giggles I bought another switch (mirror adjustment switch) and replaced it and all was fine then. Somehow, when the wires got pinched it must have shorted out the switch interally. When I added the HVAC control a few months later to make the heated part work, I would blow a fuse. I took the passenger side mirror off and it had some pinched wires that were shorting out the heated part of the mirrors.

They are definately a PIA to get situated and bolted on properly, but once you get everything in order, they'll work great.
I bought mine on Ebay from Fenderworld, they were great to deal with. Heck, they even called me once after I got all my problems figured out and asked me how to fix them since they had other people calling in with problems. :rockwoot:
I bought both my switches used on Ebay for less than $20 shipped. You guys still havin troubles after fixing the wires might try that. Also, for the guys that have trouble with the mirror moving different directions than what you are moving the switch.....I would check the wiring again, I'm guessing that there are still some bare wires shorting across each other in the mirror loom.

Sorry for the novel, but I just thought the info might help some of you.
Feel free to shoot me a PM if you guys need any help.

Thanks for that post, would have helped me alot with my first set, but now I am on my second set, and have them on, they work just like they should, and I cut a slot in them like in the pic above, just to be safe this time around. The first ones burned the motors up, the dome lights in the truck would dim when they were hooked up and we tried to move them, didn't matter if they were on the truck or off, and all the wires were in site, they didn't work after the wires were cut. So far so good on this set.
