Since the weather has gotten colder (down to around 5 degrees) i'm having a big problem when the truck doesnt warm up for a long period. I can let it idle 10-15 minutes and when i take off 2nd through 4th gear pops and throws piles of grey smoke between 1500 and 2000 rpm's. But if you mash it when it is popping it tends to run right through the hesitation. Any ideas? Maybe timing, headgasket, lack of fuel, or maybe its just cold?

Sounds like it needs more timing. Also if you have any fuel leaks that would cause it to.

mine did the same thing, when i put my new pump in the guy messed up and set it a 9* and i ran like s#!*

i've heard of low pop pressures on the injectors that caused that kinda issues.

let it run a good minute, then high idle the pig at 1250 rpms. Low idle at them temps doesnt help anything. also wouldnt hurt to remove your fan blade/clutch hub, and throw a cold front on it. Just your basic cheap mods first before you get in to the real stuff.
