O.k. after having trouble with my rebuild I decided to go to the S400's. Being S400 ignorant I cannot determine (after hours of reading) what would be the best choice. I spoke with Chris @ E.D. breifly today but would like to hear what everyone else has to say.
I'm running an SO, 6 x .15's, Redline, Big stick, fully ported head and plan on an ATS T4 or the new stainless log manifold as Chris suggested. I don't tow much anymore but still drive the truck on the street most of the time.
I have to stay with a true 2.6 charger so bushings are out. Should I stay with the S300's? Do the S400's really move that much more air?

Thanks, Kip.

I spoke to Majestic Turbo the other day about a S465 and they seemed pretty reasonable. Have heard they have sold a few of these to pullers. They seem to be a pretty popular choice from what I've read. Believe this is the route I will be going with when the time comes but Im still doing my research before I jump of the deep end throwing money into my puller.

I have an S464(to meet '09 2.5) on my 97 which is not street driven anymore. It doesn't lite till about 2K rpms when I do play on the side roads because the turbine is so big(83mm). So the pro is its cheaper, but the con is its laggy without the addition of an aftermarket cam.

Check out forcedinductions.com ;)

we have a truck that we just p-pumped and we were running 7x.018's in it with a s.o. vp and were tapped out so we went for the p. it runs a s465 with a 84 trurbine and a tight ar and runs good . the converter is stock stall and lights suprisingly well. t4.

2k rpms aren't that bad imo, i'm use to a 2.6 that comes on around 2800-3k LOL

That sounds like a bigger ”2.6” than mine. LOL

I totally missed "big stick & ported head" in the original post. :headslap:
That would spool a S465 with .90 a/r A LOT better than my 2000/2100 stock head & cam

My p-pumped 24V with a Maxspool 2.5++ cam spools my s465 fast. If your rules are strict enough that you can't run a turbo thats modified anyway to make it a 2.6, isn't the s465 your only s400 option? And when you say no bushings, does that mean you can have a cover machined to fit a bigger s400 but with a 2.6" hole? Some rules are worded that way...

I got mine from forcedinductions also...

I like what I see from Engineered Diesel hard to beat the product and customer service!

There are some other options there are 65mm ETT s400 wheels out there. There is also the bullseye 2.6 wheel with the 110 exducer.

I was kinda eluding to that since I'm no turbo expert... a 65mm ETT wheel in a s465 still makes it an s465 right? LOL

Is the Bullseye 2.6 a s300 or s400 frame? I asume 400 because of the 110 exducer...

The bullseye 2.6 charger is a 400, I would not recommend running one as they need to be pushed very hard to be efficient.

sorry for the derail but glenn i got a question, in your opinion would it be harder to get into the efficiency range of the 2.6s400 with the big 110 exducer than a regular 2.8s400 both with the same turbine a/r and housing? and when you say you gotta push it hard to get there do you mean 60+lbs of boost?

There is not a simple yes or no answer to that Question. With the particular charger that Dan mentioned, yes a 2.8 would be more efficient with the turbine side the same.

just looking for an experts opinion...with that big of exducer i would think that it be able to support a high PR and still move a good volume of air like north of 90lbs/min or am i completley wrong?. back to kipo's 2.6

I imagine it takes alot of effort on the little turb wheel (83/74) to keep that huge exducer on the compressor side moving...

turbo

I would deffinently go with the S400, Chris at ED built me one and was very impressed with it. He know what he is doing.

What turbos did you run in 2.6 class? How did they compare?

Custom made one with a contoured wheel. It really liked the fuel. Map groove was moved. It wasn't the best spooling one, but it liked even more fuel than my 2.8. It was just something I threw together.

The standard 465 is hard to beat for the money.
