:poke: A friend of mine got a weird problem with his 98 truck !

Sometimes, empty's the engine oil in one day, we thought it was maby the vaccum pump but that's a lot of oil in one day !!! I'm going to throw it out there but...tell me what you think.

leak on the ground or it burns it?
need more info on whats happening
hows he driving towing etc.
 
It's a bad turbo, bad oil control rings, very bad valve seals or it's puking it all over the ground.
 
if hes burning it, 3 gallons a day, that thing must be sponsored by the city for mosquito control!
 
im thinking broken pistons and or rings. on more than one cylinder.
 
Is there pressure being built it crankcase? Easiest way to check, put your hand near the breather tube and feel for pressure escaping, compare it to your truck for reference.
 
something is pushing oil out in vast quantities, thus lots of blow by.
 
The thing is, that the truck is fine for 4,5, days, and all of a sudden it looses it's oil. (WTF)
 
are you sure he's not checking it on the fifth day?


and how far is he driving every day?
 
I resume : the truck doesent burn oil , doesent leak for 3-4 days , and boom 3hours later 10 liters of oil one shot , the rear bumper leaks oil ( how fast i'ts coming out !!! ) .... turbo is okay , seems the oil is coming out of the breather , but , why , that is the question of the day ?? lol
 
Any correlation to the type of driving he is doing? I had a leak at my bottom turbo drain into the block. Going down the freeway, it would loose roughly 1qt. per hour. Sitting or idling around town, and it wouldn't lose any all day. It had to do with the air moving by drawing the oil out. It was the bernoulli principal, much like a carburetor.

engine is cleen ..... really seem to be the breather .... no oil near engine , and the breather tube is lower than any other thing on the engine , so i figuered ..... thought is could be a vacuum leak , to much blow-by ... i dont know .... and driving habits the same .....
 
so is he hard on it from time to time? does he highway drive the thing all the time? does he tow a lot? it is obviously an inconsistent problem but we are trying to figure out the circumstances around the problem, to help with a solution.
