horrible milage

99 std cab 4x4 2500, edge w/attitude,cold air and 4" turbo back..auto..355 gears..averaging 13 mpg driving like an old lady on the milage setting...I know it should do better than that..any suggestions?

Are you filling up to the same point every time?
 
averaging the same right now.
4x4, snow, heavy espar usage, and winter fuel all play a part in my mileage.
 
injectors going out. and from what I have read people get better mileage on 5x5 or similar than on the mileage setting. I found this to be true with my 01. What lift pump is on the truck? How many miles? Done any service to the diffs or anything? This helped me out when I went from what was in there to synthetic.
 
Stock intercooler boots? Worn out stock boots that leak just enough not to notice have caused me to loose 3mpg on 2 different trucks!
 
checked the boots..good...in tank lift pump and holley blue...tires @55lbs 265-70-16. vp is a reman. done about 30k ago..fuel pressure is about 22lbs at cruise. just took off the edge and replaced with a Quadzilla..first tank was 14.3mpg. mostly around town driving.
 
Mine is sucking majorly right now. 99 built auto, 3.55s, 305 70 16s @ 40psi, quad adr on level 2 comp tune, stole all the HD ic boots off my 97 for a week still only 13mpg!!! :banghead:
 
Thats all it will get! Live with it, claims of 20+ mpg are pure BS.
 
I'm talking about a fairly built auto 4x4 truck with oversized tires, not some stock 2wd...

Tires make big difference, I would agree with you there but that same truck with less aggressive tires would do much better.
 
I'm getting arround 16 or so in town with a a/t 4x4. my tires are bigger than stock, and a bit agressive tread. Truck has about 131250 miles on it. I'm also running about 1 oz per gallon tc-w3 ashless 2 cycle in it.

HRVP, 275RV, comp off, 33x12.50. QC SB 4x4, nv4500

That was an average of 80% highway, 10% city and WOT for the rest. Lowest it ever got was 16 towing 6-7k.


After the conversion I got the same until the pump was cranked open. Then 18 became the norm.
