how bad do twins kill your spool up?

I have had some older sets of twins but what i noticed was they come on sooner and pull evenly but compared to the hit of a single, they did not hit as hard as my 2.8. They were easier to light in spur of the moment hits but was not the "awesome you gottta get twins" that i was told.

The reason they technically should spool faster is because the atmosphere turbo is doubling the pressure on the top turbo. We breath in 15 lbs or something like that so the big charger is putting 30 lbs to the high pressure turbo so it has to work less to move more air. But now you got twice the air and like most people have twice the fuel all still going through the same little exh housings and turbin wheels which to me is overloading them (too much drive pressure) which causes heat, blown hg and poor performance. I do not think internal wg's are enough to compensate for 80- 100 lbs of boost going through stock or slighty bigger turbos. To do it correctly and get fast spoolup, you need like a ED wastegate and bypass the exh past the atmosphere charger so to not overspeed it.

Long story short, my experiance is it is a pain in the butt for the maybe little bit of improvement twins provide unless you want to spend money on custom sets like MPI's or others that do this research for you. Simply hanging a s400 under the stocker is pointless in my opinion. GIVE ME A SINGLE ANYDAY.

a stocker over s475 will flow around 80lb/min, the same as a s366, except it will come on 1000 rpm sooner, with lower drive pressure, and cooler temps.

sounds like you had a poorly set up or mismatched set of twins.

the beloved hx35 over ht3b will bairly outflow a super b special.

theres also 1000's of s400's that are not using extended tip compressor wheels that bairly flow enough for 600 horse even tho they are the size of a small honda.

even the larger pucks in the stainless housing?

i am getting ready to do twins but thats the question - is a 62/65-13 the way to go up top or how much better will it work with the gate disabled and an external gate?

second option obviously costs more but who cares at this point....just want it as right as it can be

the pucks in the 13 are night and day different compared to the cast iron housings i have seen

does anyone know the exact dia of the two?

from that i could figure out the cross sectional area

that would help me make up my mind

thanks, don

the s300's with dual 1" ports are more than big enough. when i made my tow twins i opened the port in the hy35 to just over 1" and with it unhooked the truck would make about 30psi, all hooked up and running it would make 10-15psi revving in neutral, 60psi max boost, 65psi of drive pressure.
