How do I launch my manual?

I've done the search function already, and only seen one thread that even sort of addressed this. I've got an 01 SB QC, 4x4, with the NV4500, AD 150, SB SD Con OFE, Edge Comp, and a few other things. I understand that in an auto, you can just brake stand to build boost, then let off the brakes and launch, do burnouts etc....
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to launch my truck with a manual without smoking my clutch. I tried holding the clutch in, standing on the brakes and gas, and then quickly letting off the clutch, to try and build boost (with my stock clutch, so that was part of the reason I smoked it...) but as I stated, all it would do was smoke the clutch, and I'd let off the gas before anything else happened. I'm sitting here watching all the pulling vids, and I figure that all those guys don't have autos, so how do I build boost and launch in a manual without destroying my clutch? Maybe I'm just retarded, but it's not working the same as when I'd do burnouts in a gasoline car with a manual when I was younger...

you don't unless you want the clutch welded to the flywheel.

buy a dual disc clutch

Like they were saying, it's really hard on any clutch especially a single disk. However, you put your right foot heel on the brake and use your toe to push the throttle down. Then let out the clutch until it starts to grab and your engine builds boost. When you leave the line, drop your heel off the brake and side step the clutch and push your toe down on the throttle all at the same time.

so then, just out of curiosity then, how are the guys hooked up to the sleds building boost before they launch? I know not all of them are autos...

Answers work for me, not all that keen on destroying my clutch, so, not going to happen then, but I am curious though.

They have 2, 3, and even 4 disk clutches and they don't care about them because they pull maybe 10 times in a season and they switch them out every season.

Do not try this with the FE clutch you have.. IT WILL WELD TOGETHER.......
Don't ask me how I know :bang..

I had a con ofe and I just launched in third gear,no building boost, just wind it up a little.

If you free rev your truck, you can build all the boost you need. With the Adrenaline, I could free rev around 3700 and it would build 7-8 psi. I was cutting 1.8 second 60' times and my truck was leaving harder than a buddies built auto at 20 psi.

When I launch in 2nd gear at 3400 rpm about 5 psi, I would have to ride the clutch just a tad or it would bog down a touch. At 7 psi and 3700 rpm, I can just side step the clutch and zero bog, just a little tire spin.

Honestly, your OFE will not hold more than just free rev launch anyway.

A sled weighs enough that you build boost against it. I sled pulled an OFE 5 years ago pulling out in second and shifting to third. The clutch lasted 15000 miles after those two pulls that I did that. I don't know if the new owners had to put another clutch in it or not after I traded it. It was only at ~425hp wise too.

The Con OFE is easy to weld together! 2 launches:bang I am currently on my 2nd Con FE.. I ditched the OFE!!!

What gear were you launching in bigblue? Where you in 4wd? Were you just dumping the clutch?

My OFE just welded itself to my flywheel this week!!!! Get a double disc! Good thing i already got the auto for the swap!

launching like that is way more abusive on the rest of the trans and drivetrain than a boosted launch.

It was the sled ATPA used to use in east tennessee when they had pulls back in 03 I believe. I have video of it but it's on vhs and I don't know how to convert it to dvd or computer.

GET A LINE LOCK AND A DOUBLE DISC CLUTCH....

This is how i launch my stick.. I have a sbc DD 3850 12 cb.. My footwork is fancy enough not to need a line lock (although it really would make things easier).. I put my truck in 4x4, I push my clutch in, I put my truck in 3rd gear, I hold my foot to the floor, which builds about 18-20 psi, put my foot on the brake after i stage and wait for my opponent to stage. Once he stages, I begin to ride the clutch a tiny bit. When i see the last yellow blink I let the clutch fly, take my foot off of the brake, and that's about it!!!

i've done one 3rd gear boosted launch at 20psi, just to see, w/ my single disc, it took a week of driving to feel right again. im saving for a dd.
