Uptill a week ago i was sure that if you got an 06 gmc or chevy that it had the lbz engine in it. But then i heard that some early 06's had the lly in them. how else can you tell besides looking at the hp tag on the engine?
Read the RPO code in the glove box, I'd focus on the code "LBZ" or "LLY". That would be your best bet, as it's printed on the sticker inside the glovebox somewhere.
Same engine with slightly different tuning. If buying any upgrades, buy for LBZ. The 06 LLY was under rated as far as HP as I've not seen any difference dyno'ing stock LBZ vs Stock 06 LLY.
there will be a 2 or a d in the vin number cant remember which is what but mine is a very early 06 built in 05 but is an LBZ mostly the only 06 lly's you will find will be a stick also look at the door badges alli logo w/LBZ
The badges will tell also from looking outside the lbz has the blue (Allison transmissions duramax) and the lly has the old red and black (duramax diesel) as far as I know.
