Guy i know posted this on a local forum, he works at a dealer...
there is no way in hell a lift pump costs half of a new engine, and 6 injectors cost more than the whole engine
customer brought in a 2007 ram3500 cummins 6.7L emissions diesel, with intermittent no start, and sounds like its running on 2 cylinders. cummins/chrysler tell tech that the damage is already done, showing rust after the multiple fuel filters before hitting the injectors, injector pressure is spiking to 10,000psi which equals clogging injectors, cummins/chrysler recommends that we replace all 6 injectors, and the lift pump.
Costs:
1 6.7L injector = $1900 x 6 = $11,400 in just parts alone
1 6.7L lift pump = $5000 x 1 = $5,000
so the shop bill so far is the $89 diag fee, plus $16,400 in parts, and were not even replacing a shortblock, turbo, or any huge parts.
all i have to say is wow.
