Hey everyone I'm a proud owner of a cummins with a bad 47re an I'm looking to some what build it up. I'm looking at getting revmax's triple disk converter stage 2 VB and a heavy duty rebuild kit with more clutches and a few other hard parts and basically I'm wanting to know if a regular Joe like myself with some mechanical skills can rebuild it their self and how hard is it. I'm pretty sharp when it comes to figuring things out just don't want take off to big of a bite!

Thanks in advance for any input

IMO, it's too big of a bite. A turned up 5.9 just flat punishes the drivetrain and I honestly believe anyone would be better off dropping the coin for a pro built tranny. Again, JMO. Welcome to the site, btw:)

Buy a good service manual, and get some good parts. I have had fantastic luck with goerend, but have seen great results with others.

SmokinCummins does great transmission work. Along with about anything else. He uses Goerend parts as well with great success. I personally have used Suncoast stuff and am very satisfied with their products as well.

Thanks for all the replies and yea I just seen this site but I've been on CF for over a year.. I've always wanted to know how hard it would be considering I haven't seen the inside of a tranny before and according to my local trans shop he said there's a lot of specs and little stuff that can go wrong and that's enough to make me not want to mess with it.. If in putting 2-3 thousand in it I want it to last lol

Should not be to hard as long as you have a service manual to tell you what to do.
