How is everyone running their oil drains on twins?

Just trying to look ahead before starting the build. I was wondering how everyone is running their oil drains?
I more curious on how you guys are running the drain for the bottom turbo.

This is for a '97 12 valve. I already looked and I dont have the second drain.
 
Pull the pan and weld in a second bung. I think it's a 1" hole into the pan. I used a stock oil drain I had sitting around and TIGed it in.

how hard was it for you to pull the pan?? I have been wanting to pull mine for main studs and a girdle but was not sure if the pan would clear the pickup tube.

Don't you have another plug a few inches over from where the stock turbo drains? This is where I put the drain for S400
 
It wasn't too hard. I have a first gen, so I probably have a bit more room between the bottom of the pan and the front axle. I did have to get the engine hoist out to lift the motor up a few inches, but it slid out. Still a tight fit, though.

CanadianCarGuy: Newer blocks have the second drain plug. My 93 only had one but the newer 53 block that I use for mock up had two oil drains.
 
Pulling the pan is a pain in the ass. Especially on a 4x4. There is no way to remove the crossmember. Just to get a pan gasket on is a chore. You have to pull the motor mounts, jack up the engine, just enough because the rocker tower hits the cowl, then stick your arm in the oil pan and shimmy a new gasket around the oil pickup and then hopefully everything stays, and then put it all back together.
I thought I read that some guys just tee into the one drain line.
I dont see why I just cant do this. The stock oil feed line is 1/4" and the stock oil drain is 3/4". The turbo just gravity drains the oil.
 
My 94 has been tee'd at the factory drain. Works good for 3 years now. Go for it.

I'd like to see some pics of Tee'd lines. Sure would be alot easier than pulling the pan, even on a first gen.
 
I just bought another factor Oil bung and took out the plug by back of the block and installed the bung as pictured.... it lines up with the bottom turbo too.

I tell ya you 24v guys got it easy. I wish my 12v had the second plug
 
I don't have one either so when I do go to twins I geuss I'll pull the pan and replace the gasket while I'm there :(
 
Only the 98 and newer blocks have the second drain port, which is nice, but then we have wimpy 12mm main studs :(
 
I didn't want to weld on the pan, because I was worried about warping it. So I took a -10 bulkhead fitting and welded a big washer to it for a little more surface area for a gasket. I ran that near the top of the pan and I ended up with the oil level of being right across the fitting. It shows no sign of leaking.
I'd rather have 14mm main bolts than a 2nd oil drain.
 
go through the pan it is real easy. Well I drilled nice and slow and careful through the pan watching and cleaning the shaving away then drained the oil and flushed it out though the hole I drilled with cleaner, and then welded a stock piece of drain pipe on, and then finished with oil change no leaks and no other problems what so ever, I tried the T in the factory one but if you don't get you turbo's up enough you will have a nice oil leak into the exhaust and intercooler because they need to drain by gravity, and the more downward and straight the line the better.
 
I was thinking of using this, made by Russel, part # 697090 Around $21.00. drill 3 holes in the pan, and bolt in. AN-10

Although I have never tried it like this, I was thinking about just using the front drain and running either a tee or better yet a Y (an) style. If you have the pan off you could tap that hole for a pipe thread and put a fitting in it, or just use a slip on with a hose if the pan was still on.

I can't see were a 10AN line would not flow enough to cover both turbos.

I'm in the same boat, any more ideas since 2 years ago? No second drain on my 97 either. I wouldnt mind doing the pan, but I'd need to tap it without removing it.

Thought about Y-ing into the stock one, but it seems like the angle wouldnt be that good.

PS Anyone know the thread for the second oil feed line where the plug lives about the oil filter?

I know two people that used a air chisel with a pointed punch on the end, punched a hole through the pan. Put in a 90 like source sells and sealed it with sealant, one used JB weld.

TOMTOM is one of the ones who did it, you could pm him for a better explanation.
