Sorry for my ignorance....but can someone tell me how much hp I can squeeze out of a stock 12v cam?? Any help would be appreciated.

hp

I've heard guys run 500+ on stock cam... really if you port and polish your head.. basically same thing as getting a cam so i've been told.

It's not so much the hp number as the area under the curve. It will do 600 plus but it won't be a peaky curve and not flat.

Ok thanks guys for the input. I plan on doing my very best on a DIY port and polishing. Can anybody running a stock cam making some good numbers chime in and give me a lil input. Thanks to all

I'm pretty sure Jim Fulmer has the OE cam in his 650ish 12v, he used to have an 800+ truck but I don't remember if it had a bigger cam or not...

I made several 698 hp runs and one right at 700 on fuel, stock cam, stock head, "o'ringed" and a 12mm pump.

Good input that's what i was wanting to see. I'm gonna try my luck with a stock cam and focus on a good set of sticks and a good benched 12mm pump. Turbo I'm unsure of right now. I'd like to be around the 700 mark on fuel only. I'm open to suggestions on achieving this.

Anybody help me out with getting ahold of Weston?? (smokem). I sent him a pm about getting him to check out my jl 5x18s but no such luck getting ahold of him.

Cbtoyz your numbers are pretty impressive. Maybe you could share a lil info with me?? Lol

One thing you may want to do even with the stock cam is drill and tap it for a billet gear retainer.

I did 634 on fuel with a 160 non benched pump and a stock cam with studs only and 264k on the motor.

I made 713 HP on a stock cam. Super B Special, 887 Pump with a #6 plate, 4KGSK, 191DV's, 25*, and DDP4's.

This dyno run was the same setup, but timed at 22*. It made 600 HP@2400 rpm and didn't fall back under 600 until around 3500 rpm.

Really impressive with a stock cam. I wouldn't have thought a person could make much over 500 with stock cam. I have high hopes now.

Ok next question is. With the stock cam do I need to run upgraded valve springs and or pushrods?

Check my thread in the competition section of the dodge portion of this forum regarding stock 12v valve size. It depends on what you're doing. Planning on running more than 55psi and 3000rpm and I would definitely do springs and do them right the first time. 60lb springs are cheap but there are much better alternatives out there now a days.

edit: here ya go!
